Bird Sanctuary12km further on Mumbai-Pune Highway to Goa, on the left-side of the road is the densely forested Karnala Bird Sanctuary home to 150 bird species. Take a stroll. Half an hour should make for a pleasant break.
If you have the time, climb the Karnala fort. The trek takes 30 minutes. Get a birds’ eye view of the Mumbai coastline and the Sahyadris

RefreshmentResume journey on the two-lane road. Look out for plenty of sharp corners.
Around two hours fifteen minutes later, cross the bridge on Nidi River.
A few kilometers later, you will reach the small village of Aenghar.. Look out for the huge welcome board
Take a tea break at the Dhaba. Or indulge in some Konkani food cooked in a traditional mud oven.
Resume journey. Reach the Colad market and use the paid toilet for a comfort break.

Koena RiverBack on the road, 10.4 km later, refuel at Mangaon Petrol Pump, as the Western Ghats will begin soon.
A few minutes' drive from there is Open Umbrella. Ideal place to stop for Brunch. Everyone can stretch their legs as the kids unwind in the play area.
Enjoy some delicious Konkani food.
Start the climb up the Western Ghats. Look at Koena river on the right.
At Mahad stop for a picnic by the river. If the Ferrywala is available you could ferry over to the other bank. Beware of quick sand .

Resume journey. Hairpin bends could make you car sick. Carry some mints/candies.
Tea break at Gurumoli restaurant.
Just 64 Kms from Goa, cross Sawantwadi Lake.
