    Panvel petrol pump

    Mumbai to Goa – distance 594 km- travel time including breaks – 15 hours Start at 6.30 am and head towards Panvel, Reach Panvel by 7.30 am and Top up petrol at Panvel petrol pump

    Lunch

    Get on to the Panvel- Goa highway

    Eat delicious watermelon at incredible prices from street hawkers

    Food stop at McDonalds – kids will be happy with Happy Meal.

    Bird Sanctuary

    12km further on Mumbai-Pune Highway to Goa, on the left-side of the road is the densely forested Karnala Bird Sanctuary home to 150 bird species. Take a stroll. Half an hour should make for a pleasant break.

    If you have the time, climb the Karnala fort. The trek takes 30 minutes. Get a birds’ eye view of the Mumbai coastline and the Sahyadris

    Refreshment

    Resume journey on the two-lane road. Look out for plenty of sharp corners.

    Around two hours fifteen minutes later, cross the bridge on Nidi River.

    A few kilometers later, you will reach the small village of Aenghar. Look out for the huge welcome board.

    Take a tea break at the Dhaba. Or indulge in some Konkani food cooked in a traditional mud oven.

    Resume journey. Reach the Colad market and use the paid toilet for a comfort break.

    Koena River

    Back on the road, 10.4 Km later, refuel at Mangaon Petrol Pump, as the Western Ghats will begin soon.

    A few minutes drive from there is Open Umbrella. Ideal place to stop for Brunch. Every one can stretch their legs as the kids unwind in the play area.

    Enjoy some delicious Konkani food.

    Start the climb up the Western Ghats. Look at Koena river on the right.

    At Mahad stop for a picnic by the river. If the Ferrywala is available you could ferry over to the other bank. Beware of quick sand.

    Sawantwadi Lake

    Comfort break at Neel Kamal restaurant.

    Resume journey. Hairpin bends could make you car sick. Carry some mints/candies.

    Tea break at Gurumoli restaurant.

    Just 64 Kms from Goa, cross Sawantwadi lake.

    To reach Club Mahindra Varca Beach Resort stick to NH 17 from Panjim to Margoa. Upon reaching Margoa square, take a right turn to Colva beach, from there on the well placed resort sign boards will lead you.
