While some of its cities are famous all over the world because of the delights they offer to residents and tourists, India is also filled with numerous small towns and hill stations that are as picturesque and worth a visit. Tungi is one such small but gorgeous town in Maharashtra..

This little town is not so easily recognised by too many people. Flanked by the Pavna Lake and the famous Mangi-Tungi forts, Tungi is however well-known and greatly favoured by regular trekkers and para gliders. Now Club Mahindra makes the town an even better place to visit, with its new resort.

Landmark resort

Lake Pavna Tungi is Club Mahindra’s most ambitious project so far. Spread over 42 acres of lush greenery, the resort is built such that despite its contemporary architecture, the natural wealth and resources of the region are not hampered.

With 156 rooms, the resort is all set to raise its own benchmark, in terms of facilities and services. To tantalize your taste buds, Ripples, the resort’s multi cuisine restaurant will serve both a la carte and a delicious buffet spread. Those looking for a fabulous view of the Lake Pavna without leaving the resort need only to step into Amara, the resto bar with an open deck that looks out into the lake. All this and more! There is plenty of work in the pipeline, so you can always look forward to a Club Mahindra holiday that gives you a delightfully whole new experience, each time.

If you must continue your daily workout or take a trip to the salon and can’t find any around the area, fret not. A yoga deck, beauty parlour and gymnasium, all find place in the resort, along with Svaastha, the Harmony spa.

Looking around

If you must continue your daily workout or take a trip to the salon and can’t find any around the area, fret not. A yoga deck, beauty parlour and gymnasium, all find place in the resort, along with Svaastha, the Harmony spa.

One of the most prominent attractions of the area are the twin Mangi – Tungi peaks.

Mangi is located about 4343ft above sea level, on the western side while Tungi is the 4366ft high, eastern pinnacle. Don’t be surprised if you come across trekkers making their way to the summit. The peaks are a popular destination for adventure sports enthusiasts.

It’s hard to miss the Tungi fort, at the base of which Tungi is located. Built before 1600 AD, this sharp conical peak has witnessed much of history. The small fort was built by the Adil Shahi dynasty and later captured by Shivaji. The oval shaped monument, with thick walls and bastions, houses a ruined temple at the summit. A close look at the fort will also tell you that many a Bollywood song has been shot against its backdrop. Who says Indian sites don’t make for great locations?

Pavnanagar Dam is another greatly recognised site in this area. Originating in the Western Ghats, the Pavna Lake flows through the area towards Pune. The construction of the dam has submerged the Tung fort from three sides.

The two peaks are considered to be sanctified areas by the Jains. A number of Jain temples dot the area, containing depictions of Jain Tirthankaras in different postures. The Jains believe that the region is a Siddha Kshetra (the doorway to spiritual enlightenment).
