Not only does it put you in a good mood, depending on the type of dance you pick, it stimulates your mind and body too. Need more reasons to get those feet tapping? Read on… Dr. Mahesh Jukar — Fitness Consultant, Dr L.H. Hiranandani Hospital, Mumbai, says, “Dancing is therapeutic and a good way to unwind. It’s a great way to socialise and mingle with friends.” Dr. Jukar recommends dancing as a form of fitness, as it improves efficiency of your heart, circulatory and pulmonary system. “This is because when you move the large muscles of your body in a rhythmic, continuous manner, you create an increased demand for oxygen. In addition, dancing also increases bone strength,” he explains. However, a dancer must take care of his/her diet too, as the body needs energy to perform. Dr. Jukar suggests including wholegrain cereals, fruits, vegetables, sprouts, legumes, dairy products, lean meat or fish and a small amount of fat in your daily diet.
