The Eternal
City
Rome, with all its layers, flaws, beauty and madness, is
a city that has well earned its moniker, Caput Mundi (capital of
the world). And even though the days of the Roman emperors
are over, reminders of their power and wealth live on in the
form of their gigantic statues, buildings and tombs scattered
across the city.
Getting around
The beauty of Rome lies in the fact that the city itself, in all
its chaotic, frenzied glory, is like one big museum. Start your
trip by buying a pass on a hop-on hop-off bus, which takes
you through the city with a guide to explain the history of
the churches and monuments you’ll pass. The buses stop at
important sites, and with a different bus making a stop every 20
minutes, you can get off where you choose and simply hop back
on when you’re done. If you’re keen on sightseeing, definitely do
invest in a Roma Pass, available at Tourist Information Points
across the city. The pass, for €27 (approx. 1861 INR at the time
of going to press) a person, includes entry into the first two
museums and/or archaeological sites of your choice, free use
of public transport (most buses, trams and metro lines) for a
certain number of days and discounts at various museums.
