About the resort
Located in the lush district of Kollam is one of the largest lakes in Kerala, second only in size to the famous Vembanad lake. The lake which branches out like the eight arms of an octopus is called “Ashtamudi” meaning eight cones in the local language. Small towns and villages lie huddled together on its banks, surrounded by a fabric of green and blue. Unmindful of its own beauty, Ashtamudi with its vast network of canals and lagoons is one of the premium backwater destinations and wetlands in Kerala. Lost in the arms of nature and located right on the banks of this pristine lake is Club Mahindra Ashtamudi, the last word in luxury here.
Floating cottages lull you to sleep. Book any room or apartment or cottage and the windows open up to the blue waters from every room. Watch the fishermen set up Chinese fishing nets and call out to each other. You can walk around in the small villages around the resort or pamper yourself at the ayurvedic therapies at the spa. Refresh yourself with a cup of tea. Do some bird watching or try your hand at fishing. Bond with your family and friends over great food . This is probably the most idyllic holiday that you have ever had.
Club Mahindra Ashtamudi is easily accessible from Tiruvananthapuram (90 kms) and Kochi (175 kms) and the closest town with a rail head is Kollam or Quilon at 18 kms, located on the banks of the lake.
I stayed at the Mahindra Ashtamudi for 3 nights in July 2014. Had booked a floating 1 BR floating cottage, which is possibly the best option to really enjoy the backwaters. The views in the morning and during sunset are breathtakingly beautiful.
