Activities at Club Mahindra Corbett

stories

  • A safari in the forests of Corbett By Lakshmi Sharath

It is four in the morning and the eyes are still getting used to the darkness around . An icy breeze tugs at you, awakening the silent waters of the River Kosi flowing through the Club Mahindra resort. Standing on the banks of the river, I watch the moonlit ridges of the mountains, towering above, almost touching the jeweled sky. While some of my fellow travelers are star gazing, a few are attempting night photography. I , for one am just lost in the silence.

  • Corbett alive in the forests By Neelima

The noise is deafening but I am much thankful about the ability of human brain to totally phase out the distractions and transport one to a different time and day altogether. This Diwali, the sound of crackers is slowly fading out as the gentle echo of the flowing river is ringing in my ears. A vision forms in my head, of a huge glass window, of a comfortable bed, of green forests beyond and a charming river called Kosi. A week before, I spent few days in the foothills of Himalayas, wandering in the dreamy realms of forests around Corbett.

Sight Seeing

1. Corbett Waterfall

The sheer beauty that is the Corbett Waterfall makes it the perfect spot for a picnic. It is located inside the reserve forest area and offers a lot on a visit.

2. Corbett Museum

A veritable treasure house for Corbett Lovers, the museum is located at Kaladhungi. Once the winter home of Jim Corbett, the cases where his rifles were kept, crockery that he used and his hat and a fishing net, are relics that are deeply moving and evocative.

3. Tapkeshwar Temple

An ancient seat of worship, the Tapkeshwar Temple is a splendid cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The name 'Tapakeswar' is taken from the natural dripping of the water drops over the shrine from the rocks of the cave. This water disappears underground only to reappear a short distance away in the form of stream. The cool sulphur springs attract a good number of pilgrims every year.

4. Marchula

Marchula is a small, lush tourist place. It is located at the tip of Corbett National Park and the hanging bridge, on the banks of Ramganga River.

5. Safaris

What is a national park without its safaris? Safaris to The Corbett Park and Corbett Tiger Reserve make for an interesting time in sturdy 4x4 vehicles. While the safaris do not happen all year round, when they do, one comes across an assortment of wildlife that is amazing to watch. From tigers to birds, gharial and deer to elephants and a whole lot more, there is never a dull moment on a Corbett Park Safari.

6. The Nature Walk

The Club Mahindra Corbett resort has a guided tour that is interesting for one and all. Headed by naturalists, these tours unveil the wonders of the earth while walking along the banks of the River Kosi and other simple paths rich with healing herbs.
