KANYAKUMARI TOUR 78 kms. one way
Kanyakumari also known as Cape Comorin is the southern most tip of India where three water bodies – the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean and the Arabian sea meet. The trip also includes a visit to Padmanabhapuram Palace (42 kms. from Poovar), Suchendra temple (65 kms from Poovar) and the Vatta fort (72 kms. from Poovar).

KOVALAM BEACH TOUR 25 kms one way
Kovalam is one of the finest beaches in Kerala where swimming is safe. The trip in addition to Kovalam beach includes Shanghumugham beach, Veli tourist park (rock sculpture art) and Veli aquarium.

PONMUDI AND CARDAMON HILLS 85 kms one way
Ponmudi is a small hill station. The hills are lightly wooded and easy walking. The journey to Ponmudi is picturesque and along the banks of Kallar river with banana, rice, rubber, teak, tea and pepper plantations which provides glimpses into village life in South India. Other sights on the way are a small deer park, a dip in the Kallar river, cardamon and other spice plantations.

MEEN MUTTI WATERFALLS 85 kms one way
Meen Mutti is for the more adventurous at heart. Access to the waterfalls is by a 2 km trek through mountain jungles. The water which directly descends from the Agastya mountain is crystal clear, cool and swimmable.

NEYYAR DAM TOUR 37 kms one way
The source of the backwaters on which Poovar floats, the Neyyar river is sparkling green and can be seen in all its pristine beauty from a boat ride along the various off shoots of the river. As an added pleasure, one can try and spot the crocodiles and wild elephants which habitat the banks of the river frequently.

Feed the fish at Edavanaruvikkara – the official caretakers of the Lakshmi temple on the river banks. Have your fortune told by the local Soothsayers.

For the more adventurous, the following is possible at a supplement of Rs 700/-. Take a walk into the jungles around the Neyyar river at Kottur forest (8 kms from the dam). Go for a swim in the tranquil backwaters. Relax amongst the forest groves along the river banks.

TRIPPARPPU WATERFALLS 42 kms one way
Take a bath beneath the Tripparppu waterfalls which are completely natural rain waters from the mountains. Walk on a 100 feet high bridge at Thottippalam (34 kms from Poovar) connecting two mountains over a river and pay your respects to the Vishnu God at the Adikesavan temple (28 kms from Poovar).

Thiruvallam
It is10 km away from Poovar. This serene backwater stretch enroute to Kovalam is famous for its canoe rides.

Aruvikkara Dam
It is 16 km away from Poovar. This picturesque picnic spot is on the banks of the Karamana River. Sited near the Durga Temple, streams full of fishes fearlessly come close to the shore to be fed by visitors.

Kanyakumari (Cape Comorin)
This is the Southern tip of India or the point where the three seas meet - the enchanting Kanyakumari. It is one of the most popular tourist spots in the country. It is the very tip of the Indian peninsula and the confluence of the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. Places of interest at Kanyakumari are Tiruvalluvar statue, Gandhi memorial, Vivekananda Rock Memorial, & Padmanabhapuram Swami Temple.

Beaches
Poovar has a naturally landscaped beauty of sensuous streams, coconut palms and a bewitching beach. The beach is visited for its virginal beauty, unspoilt by modern construction.

Poovar Beach offers you an unlimited view of the natural beauty. If you come for peace and relaxation, then Poovar beach is the perfect destination for you. It is covered by golden sands and surrounded by coconut palm trees. Kerala's watercourses flow almost down to the sea from here. The people of this village depend on the river as their major mode of transportation, for bathing and washing their clothes.

It is a beautiful and unexplored beach resort. You can reach the Poovar Beach by water taxies only. The beach is not used for beach activities and water sports because of the fishing population. But Poovar beach can be visited for its peace and tranquility.

Christ the King Church, Thiruvananthapuram
Festival of Christ the King is on the last Sunday of October. High Mass, Vespers, a two-hour long Holy Eucharistic procession and benediction are the highlights of the festival. Nativity feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary is also celebrated with religious spirit.

Thiruvanthapuram – Capital City
The capital city of the kaleidoscopic Kerala, Thiruvanthapuram is an outstanding tourist destination. Thiruvanthapuram is a major centre for tourists, politics and industries. The soothing shoreline, beautiful beaches and the backwater stretches make Thiruvanthapuram one of the most frequently visited backwater holiday destinations. The sacred city of the snake is scintillating for the tourists especially during the festivities of the harvest season, Onam. The temples are rich in architectural planning.  The landscape and the moderate temperatures of the city throughout the year make the tour even more enchanting.

Wild life preserves
The major tourist activities take place in the wild life parks and wild life tours. One can really get the feel of the majesty of an elephant on these tours. Elephant rides, staying at jungle lodges, tree houses, fishing camps etc. are other facilities available there. Guides are available in the Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary for treks in the forest. The Parambikulam forest authorities organize wild life tours in the park.

Padmanabha Swamy Temple
The temple is located inside the East Fort dedicated to Lord Vishnu.  The temple features a blend of the Kerala and Dravidian styles of architecture. It is known for its Mural Paintings and Stone Carvings. One among 108 sacred Vishnu Temples in India, the presiding deity in this temple is Lord Vishnu reclining on Anantha, the serpent.
