Not only is Coorg a scenic, coffee-producing destination, but it’s also a thrilling escape for those looking for an adventurous family getaway. It is located deep in the Western Ghats and surrounded by verdant mountains that, besides adding to the lush landscape, provide adrenaline-pumping activities galore. Wildlife sanctuaries, waterfalls and high peaks constitute the various points of interest in Coorg, with piping hot cups of filter coffee topping the list!

Along with beautiful places in Coorg, another major draw is trekking in Coorg and several mountains offer a chance to do this. Some of these include:

1. Brahmagiri Peak

This is a two-in-one destination as not only do you get to enjoy a glorious peak, but also a wonderful wildlife sanctuary. The Brahmagiri Peak looms large over the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary. So, you can teach your kids about the tigers, gaurs, jungle cats, and elephants that abound here while trekking up the mountain. It’s a 10km trek that starts at the Irupu Falls and continues up to the peak.

2. Mandalpatti

Situated about 18km from Madikeri, the district headquarters of Coorg, is Mandalpatti, a peak at a height of 4,050 feet. It’s a part of the Pushpagiri reserve forest. While treks are common here, it’s also a popular place to go for four-by-four jeep drives up the mountain. Its name roughly translates to ‘Market of Clouds’ and it literally feels like you’re walking on clouds here.

3. Nishani Betta

The Nishani Betta Trek is something you ought to embark on if you are travelling together as a family. It’s also called Nishani motte and is one of the lesser-known treks, away from crowds. The trek comprises forests, meadows, and a glorious ridge walk right up to the summit. From the peak, you and your children can take in the lovely view of the Brahmagiri Hills.

4. Tadiandamol

A major point of interest in Coorg is the Tadiandamol peak, situated at a height of 1,748m. It’s covered by the dense Shola forests and is an amazing place to teach your kids about plants and insects along the way.

5. Kumar Parvatha

This is another point of interest in Coorg and is the second-highest peak in the district, at 1,712m above sea level. It’s located in between Dakshina Kannada and Coorg, and is a part of the beautiful Pushpagiri range. More importantly, it offers trails that vary in difficulty, so you can choose which one you want to traverse together as a family.

Along with trekking, you can also visit beautiful scenic places like Talacauvery and Abbey falls with your family.
