Our Jaipur-Kumbhalgarh trip in February 2022 should rank as one of the most consummate holidays we enjoyed: there was history, heritage, good food, shopping, and even a dash of spirituality. Just as the Omicron wave was tailing out, we headed to Jaipur (and were in for a chilly surprise!) where the resort is small but very pretty. It was a comfortable base point to explore the city and surrounding forts, palaces and museums, besides the maze of markets.
And the food... the chef at the resort rustled up some excellent dal-bhati-churma and lal maas, and other traditional Rajasthani dishes. Don't miss the fulsome malai lassi, chhole-puri, chaat and other street food in the main market areas.
We spent the evenings learning dance moves and singing with the very amiable Happy Hub staff. After a fulfilling two days, we drove down to Fort Kumbhalgarh, with a pit stop at Ajmer. It was a great drive -- the rolling plains, the bush, hamlets, countryside, and finally, the hills. Here was India unfolding in all its incredible colours and aromas before us. The Kumbhalgarh resort is a must-visit, with excellent suites in pleasing colours. It's tempting to just stay put and laze around, with traditional dances and mehendi, but there's so much to see outside too, like the village tour, fort tour, and jungle safari. Again, the food was great. Our only regret is that we went to Rajasthan but missed the desert... but no worries, we'll be back!
