A retreat to the hills

A retreat to the hills

We stayed at Vythiri Village Resort from 30th July to 1st August 2021. This was our first vacation in a long time due to the COVID second wave. We planned it to Wayanad as it is hardly a 3-hour drive from where we live. We had earlier stayed at another resort in the same area 2 years ago when our boy was just 6 months old. He was excited to actually see the place as he slept through most of his first vacation there. The resort is in a large 30-acre area and we were taken to our building by a van.

As this is an affiliated resort of Club Mahindra, only hotel units are available here. But, the hotel unit room was spacious and comfortable and we had a view of the stream with the bridge hanging over it. The main attractions at the place are the wave pool, a stream that runs across the compound with hanging bridges for view, and an artificial waterfall. The artificial waterfall is switched on every evening about 5 pm for half an hour or so depending on the number of guests.

The staff was very helpful. I had accidentally locked ourselves out of our room and they promptly fetched a spare key to let us in, though the reception is quite a distance away. Our son had fun playing at the artificial cave and other rides in the park. The pool area was a little crowded as some sort of group event was going on. This is not an original Club Mahindra property and therefore more crowding is expected. There is a craft and spices shop on the way to the resort which sells authentic spices of Wayanad and some good craftwork by local artisans.

Nearby attractions like Pookkot lake were all closed as COVID lockdown was still on. We did manage to find a beautiful tea estate called Aysha plantations near Vythiri town. Googling the location "Thalimala palam" should get you there. On the whole, we had a nice and pleasant stay and look forward to visiting again in the future.
