Father's Day Gift Ideas and a #ChefSunday special for him!

“Fathers just have a way of putting everything together.”Erika Cosby

While you may not recognise the person above, you can certainly relate to the thought they have so beautifully expressed. Fathers have always been ‘the guy in the background’, doing what they do best; taking care of the family and ensuring that you lack for nothing. While the love for mothers is openly expressed, fathers tend to shy away from adulation. So, Father’s Day holds a special significance as it celebrates the everyday, unsung hero called father. And Father’s Day 2020 is not different either, at least in spirit.

While most of you will be looking for gifts for dad, it is not an easy task. What do you give a man who has given you everything you’ve asked for and more? You will find Father’s Day gifts in stores aplenty, but dads can be notoriously hard to shop for, even with the global lockdown now relaxed. Though this year has not had a great start, you can make Father’s Day 2020 the one to remember for a very long time. Here are some of our ideas for Father’s Day gifts that will meet the approval of the sternest dads.

The best Father's Day gift may not be immediately apparent

The third Sunday of every June is earmarked as Father’s Day in India. With the country slowly opening up after the lockdown, Father’s Day 2020 is full of possibilities. Foregoing the usual gifts for dad, this is your chance to do something special for your father. Think of what your father enjoys the most and plan a day full of activities for him. While you cannot take him out for his favourite meal, you can certainly cook an interesting desert at home. Start the day on a high note with something sweet. Or you could just talk! When was the last time you had a heart-to-heart with your father? If you really think about it, you’ll realise that you may have been sharing more with your mother than your father. Take this opportunity to sit back, relax and just talk. You neither need topics nor an agenda when you can talk about everything and anything under the sun. Your father may just surprise you with his insights.

Netflix and Dad?

A movie marathon is an awesome Father’s Day pastime that your dad can enjoy with the entire family. Put on his favourite films and watch him lose himself in the celluloid world. Laugh with him and cry with him as you undertake the cinematic journey together. With so many streaming services now available, it shouldn’t be too difficult to put together a compilation of the cinema he loves. Or share some of your favourites with your dad, he’ll surely love it. Binge on comedy specials or go on a virtual safari, the options are endless. This time that you spend together could be one of the best Father’s Day gifts you could give to your dad. Be sure to try this and make Father’s Day 2020 an epic celebration to remember.

Learn something new together...

You’re never too old to learn and neither is your father. Make Father’s Day 2020 an occasion to learn something new together. It could be a new language or simply a new hobby like photography. Everyone has a smartphone these days. Teach him to use his smartphone camera and bring out the shutterbug within him. Or it could even be as simple as Origami or something as involving as gardening. The point here is not the activity, but the time that you spend with each other. Father’s Day is just an excuse to better understand our very first hero, friend, and the guiding hand that leads us securely through the formative years of our life. And who knows, you might even learn a few new things.

Take a weekend trip

Take a short weekend trip with your father to nearby holiday destinations. With the country-wide lockdown now being lifted gradually, there are a number of Club Mahindra properties you could visit. We will soon be sharing our resort opening information with you.

Due care is taken, and all prescribed precautions are being followed at all Club Mahindra resorts to make your holiday safe and enjoyable. So, get ready for a refreshing monsoon weekend. Start planning one to make this a happy Father’s Day.

But wait! Shouldn't there be some actual gifts as well?

There’s nothing more satisfying than getting a gift for your father, the person who’s always done the gifting. A gift does not make for a happy Father’s Day, but it certainly gives you the pleasure of watching your father’s face light up as he receives the gift. Gifts for dad range from electronics to a range of grooming essentials. A beautiful watch or an exquisite pair of cufflinks; a classy fountain pen or a new smartphone, there are a number of gifting ideas to please different types of dads. It is your thought that counts and his joy that matters.

So, how will you wish your dad a happy Father’s Day? Will you cook him brunch or take him away on a holiday?

Share your ideas for the best Father’s Day gifts and spread the joy.

And just to make the day even sweeter, let's keep up our ChefSunday tradition? If your mom deserves the loving warmth of a freshly baked cake, your dad deserves the warm goodness of a chocolatey brownie.

Chocolate Walnut Brownies

Brownies may not have the cream and frosting on top, but they can certainly express your love in the fullest measure. The following recipe serves 10 people, or lots of brownies for two people!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup chopped walnuts, 1 tsp baking powder, 125 gm butter, 2 eggs, 50 gm cocoa powder, 1/2 cup (75 ml) milk, 75 gm powdered sugar, 125 gm all-purpose flour, 200 gm condensed milk

Now the fun part begins, as you complete the fascinating journey from raw ingredients to steaming brownies.

  1. Before you do anything, grease a baking tin with butter and dust it with all-purpose flour. It will prevent the brownie from sticking after baking.
  2. Pre-heat the oven to 180°C.
  3. Pass the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder and baking powder through a sieve to remove any lumps.
  4. Beat eggs and sugar in a mixing bowl until you get a light and creamy mix. Add one egg at a time to beat them well.
  5. Now gently fold in the sieved flour, cocoa and baking powder into the mix. Add in a little bit at a time and alternate between milk and condensed milk each time.
  6. Finally, add the chopped walnuts and pour the mixture into the prepared baking tin.
  7. Bake in the pre-heated oven for 25-30 minutes.
  8. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes before enjoying the fruit of your labour
