Let your kids be a Superhero to the environment with our DIY plastic bottle planters

It’s summer vacation and kids are stuck at home going through the same round of activities to pass time. So, we decided to devise an activity for this #KidsWednesdays that your kids can have fun doing and also learn something valuable about environmental preservation.

Presenting DIY Bottle Botany - An activity in which the kids can make use of discarded bottles to create flower pots and garden planters.

THINGS THEY’LL NEED -

  1. 2L PET Bottle
  2. Duct Tape
  3. Razor
  4. Hole Puncher
  5. Thick Twine or Thin Rope
  6. Something to poke a hole in the bottle cap

INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOU & YOUR KIDS TO MAKE A HERB PLANTER -

  1. Parents: Please help your child with this step. Use a razor to cut off the bottom third of the PET bottle.
  2. Wrap duct tape around the bottom part of the bottle. Make sure that half of the duct tape is on the bottle and half is above it.
  3. Cut slits about 2-3 cms apart in the duct tape and fold over.
  4. Punch two holes about halfway down the duct tape. Cut two more on the opposite side.
  5. Cut string and thread through two of the holes from the outside in. Do the same on the other side.
  6. Paint the pot in whatever fashion your kid would like to and let it dry.
  7. Fill your planter with a good potting mix and plant seeds of your choice. You can soak fenugreek (methi) seeds overnight and plant here or even plant coriander. If you already have other plants like a money plant, you can plant it here too.
  8. Hang it in a place where there is ample sunlight and watch your plants grow!

So what are you waiting for?! Teach your kids to deck their own garden with their own unique planters. Share the pictures with fellow Club Mahindra community members and earn trip coins via Club Talk.
