Haldighati is an ancient mountain pass, nestled between the villages of Khamnor and Bagicha, within Rajasthan’s Aravalli Range. It is deemed as the land of bravery and sacrifice. On our list of historical places to visit in Rajasthan, this quaint town comes highly recommended. It was on this site that the fierce battle of Haldighati took place. It was fought on the 18th of June 1576, between the Mewaris and Mughals.

It was not just any battle, but a fight for Rajputana honour. While the Mughals were victorious, they were unable to capture valiant Pratap, who managed to escape to safety. His beloved horse, Chetak, succumbed to injuries. Legend has it that the skies wept for the loss, creating Rakt Talai – pond of blood.
