Festival in Dharamshala
Tibetan New Year is an important day of celebrations in Dharamshala and it is a main festival for Buddhists. The months of February and March see the hills decked up in festive finery to usher in the New Year. Being the stronghold of Buddhism, Buddha Purnima is celebrated with fervent zeal in Dharamshala. Buddha’s birthday is a significant day of celebrations for the Buddhists and it is observed in the month of April / May. To celebrate a good harvest, the villagers around Dharamshala observe Lohri in the month of January. Cultural shows and traditional folk-dance performances mark the celebrations of this agricultural festival.

If you can’t handle hikes / treks, take a stroll around the tea gardens of Kunal Pathri temple. It also provides you and your family with numerous photo-ops. A beautiful waterfall, located very close to McLeod Ganj, Bhagsu is also a noted picnic spot. There is also the Bhagsunath temple in the region for the spiritually inclined. If you are an adventure lover, try the Triund Trek from where views open up for the Moon peak-Indera Pass. It is a 9 km trek from Mcleodganj to reach to Triund, a peak in the mighty Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas. At 1775 m above sea level, Dal Lake looks like it is taken straight from a picture postcard. Hugged by deodar forests, the lake is also considered holy by the Hindus who take a dip in its icy waters to wash away their sins. Another picture postcard location, Kangra Valley offers you the mighty views of the Dhauladhar ranges of the Himalayas. While there, do not forget to visit the Kangra fort. Visit the Tibetan handicraft centre to catch a glimpse of the refugees working on the weaving of carpets. We have stayed in almost all the club Mahindra properties now. This is the smallest of them all but not too bad for a small stay. If you are planning for a weekend trip then this is a good place to stay for a night or two.
