Festivals in Manali

Though celebrated across India, Dussehra in the hills is celebrated with the vigor it took the gods to mark the triumph of good over evil. The week long ceremony is celebrated in the month of October to pay tribute to Lord Rama's victory over Ravana. Also known as the Vasantotsava, Pipal Jatra is a carnival hosted in Kullu's Dhalpur that begins on the 16th day of Baisakh. If you are in the mood for adventure, head to Jagatsukh which is an excellent trekking base. While the drive to Jagatsukh is itself a memorable experience, the place is an important hindu pilgrim destination as well. You could do easy one day hikes around Jagatsukh and whilst there, also explore the caves of Arjun and the Gaurishankar temple. The Solang Valley is popular for its annual skiing courses. Here, take in the most breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains and striking glaciers.


If you are kicked about snow adventure activities like snow scooter and skating, Solang is the place to be for beginners and experienced hands alike. At an altitude of 3979 metres above sea level, the mighty Rohtang Pass offers stunning views, huddled by mountains and hovered by ominous clouds. Rohtang is also quite popular with adventure seekers for trekking and other family friendly adventure activities such as horse riding, paragliding and beginner level skiing.


This region has some wonderful picnic spots, which are amongst the best places to visit in Manali. Visit Vashisht, a small village, renowned for its hot springs and temples and soak your feet in the thermal springs and seek blessings from the Gods of the hills.
