At Club Mahindra, sustainability isn't just a buzzword; it's a commitment ingrained in our ethos. With Earth Day celebrations on April 22nd, we're joining the global movement to protect our planet while ensuring memorable experiences for our guests. Our approach blends eco-conscious practices with unparalleled guest comfort, striking a harmonious balance between luxury and environmental stewardship.

For Earth Day, we're proud to showcase our dedication to sustainability through a range of initiatives and activities at our eco-friendly resorts. From Earth Day events to ongoing conservation efforts, here's how we're making a positive impact:

Committing to Better Energy Efficiency

On World Earth Day, MHRIL proudly announces its pioneering commitment to sustainability through participation in global initiatives like RE100 and EP100. These initiatives epitomize our dedication to environmental responsibility and energy efficiency, aligning with Earth Day's mission of fostering a greener, more sustainable planet.

RE100 Initiative: MHRIL joins influential businesses in pledging to transition to 100% renewable electricity by 2050. By setting public goals and annually disclosing electricity data, we aim to completely source our electricity consumption from renewable sources, contributing to a cleaner energy future.

EP100 Campaign: As part of EP100, we pledge to double our energy productivity and maximize output from each unit of energy used. Through initiatives like the Cooling Challenge, we monitor and enhance the efficiency of our Air Conditioning systems, implementing more energy-efficient solutions. Additionally, we commit to transitioning entirely to Electric Vehicles for internal transport in our resorts by 2030, reducing our carbon footprint.

Carbon Neutrality Commitment: MHRIL is dedicated to becoming carbon neutral by implementing practices and technologies that eliminate carbon dioxide emissions. Our goal to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions by 83.3% per room by 2031 reflects our unwavering commitment to mitigating climate change.

These efforts aren't merely symbolic gestures; they represent tangible actions towards combating the global energy crisis. Every time you switch on a light, relax in our resorts' cool confines, or take a cart to enjoy a round of golf, you contribute to a sustainable future. Joining the Club Mahindra family signifies a commitment to being part of the solution, making a positive impact on Earth Day and beyond.

We’re also committed to becoming Carbon Neutral by implementing practices and technology that do not release any carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. In 2016, we committed to reduce our Green House Gas emissions by 83.3% per room, by 2031. It's an uphill task, but we can get there together.

The above efforts aren't namesake measures that make for good press. They mean every time you flip a switch, lounge around the cool confines of our resorts or take a cart to play a round of golf, you aren't a part of the global energy crisis. If anything, being part of the Club Mahindra family shows that you are committed to being part of the solution.

So What Changes Can You Expect at Club Mahindra Resorts?

Only positive ones. Change does take time, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t already begun. Our promises and pledges have already taken root at many of our resorts. Here's where you can see our clean and green technologies in action

Solar Energy: Presently, 7 of our resorts function entirely on solar power. They harness the power of the sun to make your vacation comfortable and fun. The resorts are Tunghi, Kanha, Kumbhalgarh, Jaisalmer, Puducherry, Udaipur and Hatgad. Club Mahindra Kanha is actually India’s first 100% solar powered resort.

Electric Vehicles: At Varca and Tungi, we run all our internal and external movements through Electric Vehicles. At Cherai, Poovar, Ashtamudi and Jaisalmer, all internal movements are taken care of through Electric Vehicles.

Zero Waste to Landfill: While were working to make our inputs ecologically sustainable, we cannot ignore the output of waste we generate. Our goal is to divert this waste away from landfill, as a large part of greenhouse emissions that cause global warming from the methane rising from decomposing biowaste at landfill. To that end, our resort in Virajpet is now India’s first Zero Waste to Landfill resort, with a 99.32% waste diversion.

Water: Currently 6 Club Mahindra resorts do not purchase water from any external source but are entirely self-reliant for their water requirements. These include Corbett, Gir, Kanha, Naukuchiatal, Madikeri and Virajpet. 20 Club Mahindra resorts also have Rainwater Harvesting structures in place.

Organic Gardens: We believe fresh produce nourishes our guests’ minds, bodies and spirits. With that in mind, we have set up organic gardens at our resorts in Munnar, Kanha, Corbett, Poovar, Manali, Cherai, Dharamshala, Kandaghat, Thekkady and Mahabaleshwar. They supply the kitchens with produce in its best natural form, providing nourishment that lets our guests live their best lives.

As part of our commitment to staying ecologically and environmentally conscious, we’ve also conducted 2 biodiversity assessments at Virajpet and Madikeri to determine key areas of conservation. This ensures not just our resorts but also the surrounding areas make progress together. It's just who we are as a company, and if we can do it, so can you at home and in your community, in your own way.

Our commitment to sustainability has been recognised and awarded by several organisations and governments. But at the end of the day, the fact that we've had a positive impact on the community we serve, is a reward in itself and the only one that matters.

We hope our guests, both existing and prospective, take away a few of these simple practices in addition to the memories they make at our resorts. Seeing how travel and leisure are the last things on everyone’s minds with the Covid-19 pandemic, it is our hope that all our guests and partners stay indoors. Sustainability is a way of life and you can be sustainable at home and in your community, not just while you're on vacation. We wish you a safe and sustainable Earth Day 2020 and look forward to hosting a new, sustainable you once this crisis ends.

This integration with nature not only enhances guest experience but also reduces energy consumption, promoting sustainability.

Net Zero Water Initiatives:

Rainwater Harvesting: The resort has constructed a large pond and multiple rainwater harvesting pits to efficiently collect rainwater. By recycling and reusing over 70% of the water they consume, they have significantly reduced annual water consumption and costs, contributing to water conservation efforts on Earth Day.

Net Zero Landfills Initiatives:

They prioritize waste segregation, utilize a bio-digester to convert food waste into biogas, and encourage the use of cloth bags over plastic, aligning with Earth Day's focus on waste reduction.

Water Conservation: Additionally, the resort conserves water by utilizing treated sewage water for flushing and garden irrigation, reducing freshwater consumption by 70%. This initiative not only protects precious water resources but also promotes sustainable water management practices.

Through these comprehensive Net Zero initiatives, Club Mahindra, Madikeri, demonstrates its unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility on World Earth Day and beyond. By championing energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste management, the resort sets a precedent for eco-conscious practices in the hospitality industry, inspiring guests to join the global movement for a greener, more sustainable future.

By staying indoors and adopting sustainable habits, we not only protect ourselves and our loved ones but also contribute to the preservation of our planet's precious resources. As we navigate through this crisis, let us remain committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

On this Earth Day, we extend our heartfelt wishes for a safe and sustainable future. Together, let us emerge from this crisis as advocates for a greener, more sustainable world.
