Best Time to visit Dudhsagar Falls 

You actually don’t need a specific reason or season to visit this breathtakingly beautiful waterfall in Goa; you can visit this place anytime. October to June is a great time to come to this place, as the weather is pleasant and the water flow is timid.  

July to September, i.e., during months, the fall is at its ferocious best, and the surroundings turn into a million shades of green orchid. 

Legend associated with Dudhsagar Waterfall 

There are many interesting fables about Dudhsagar falls. One such story is of the beautiful princess who loved taking a bath in the lake near the home, which is where the Dudhsagar falls originate from. As part of her bathing ritual, should drink a glass of milk in her golden mug.  

One day, when she was bathing in the lake, she noticed a charming man gazing at her from a distance. To block his sight through the crystal-clear water of the lake, she immediately spilled the milk from her mug into the water. It is said that it is the milk from her mug that is endlessly flowing in the streams of the waterfall, and hence the name, ‘Dudhsagar Waterfall.’

Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary 

Distance from Dudhsagar Falls – 4.8 kms (approx.) 

Located in Sanguem Taluka, the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary is a nature and wildlife lovers’ paradise. During the monsoon, the rain washes the jungle in different hues of browns and greens and the whole place comes alive, making your safari in the forest even more enriching than other days. Here you can spot many exotic birds and animals, including wild boar, Bengal tiger, wild dog, great Indian hornbill, golden oriole, emerald dove and more.  

Tambdi Surla Temple 

Distance from Dudhsagar Falls – 30 kms 

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Tambdi Surla Temple, which is also known as Mahadeva Temple is one of the oldest temples in Goa. Built in the 12th century, it is one the best places to visit near Dudhsagar. Constructed in Kadamba style, this temple attracts Hindu devotees from all over Goa, especially during the Mahashivratri festival. The rustic-looking temple from the outside and the vast open green garden are contrasting, yet somehow seem to be in perfect sync with each other.

Kulem – Dudhsagar Waterfall Trekking 

The monsoon is a great time to go trekking into the thick Dudhsagar forest. This trail is about 12 kms long, and it takes about 4-6 hours to cover the distance. Many people conduct trekking tours to Dudhsagar waterfalls, it is one of the best monsoon activities in India that would give you an experience of a lifetime.  

The muddy track could be slippery, and you must be careful while walking on them. Also, during your trek, take note of the wilderness that surrounds you, which only adds to the thrilling experience.

How to Reach Dudhsagar Waterfall? 

There are different ways you can reach Dudhsagar – by train, road, or trekking.  

By Train 

If you are travelling to Dudhsagar by train, you can take a train from Madgaon, Goa to Kulem. From here, you can hop onto a good train and get off near the falls. Although, there is no official stop here, you can request the motorman to stop, and they may oblige. Alternatively, you can take a train from Madgaon to Sonalium station, which is only a few kms away from the Dudsagar waterfall.  

The train travel gives you a spectacular view of the scenery around and of course the falls.  

By Road 

If you prefer travelling by road, you can take a jeep from Kulem to Dudhsagar. The ride will take about one hour, and will drop you at the base of the falls. 

By Trekking 

The most adventurous and challenging way to reach Dudhsagar falls is by trekking your way up. There are two trails, and you can choose any one as per your convenience.
