The dreaded COVID-19 continues its relentless march all over the world, claiming victims everywhere. India is currently in a state of self-imposed siege as the virus goes into Stage III, during which community transmission is at its peak. In a bid to keep its 1.3 billion citizens safe, the Government has imposed a Coronavirus lockdown for 21 days starting March 25, 2020.

This has resulted in everybody sitting at home and practicing social distancing in public places. The enforced holiday has resulted in families getting time together, creating opportunities for fun things to do at home, catching up with hobbies, playing with kids and pets, and so on.

If you’re stuck at home and wondering how to while away the hours due to the COVID-19 lockdown, here are 4 fun indoor activities we suggest:

#1 Give yourself a makeover. Virat Kohli got a haircut courtesy wife Anushka Sharma, and actor Kajol experimented with lipstick and mascara during the 21-day COVID-19 lockdown in India. Since you’re at home and not likely to go out any time soon, now is the time to give yourself the makeover you always wanted. Get your makeup kit and look up online tutorials for contouring, smoky eye shadow and other trends. Or get a pair of scissors and carefully snip away at your bangs or trim the ends of your hair. There’s no limit to what you can do when you want to make yourself over during this Coronavirus protection phase.

#2 Let the entire family exercise together. Since going out for a run or heading to the gym during this time are impossible, you should carry on with your fitness goals at home. In fact, get the entire family to work out together. Most people are likely to make do with ready to eat meals and frozen foods to save on labour and dishwashing at this time – junk food causes weight gain and disturbed sleep. Keep yourself and your family fit by doing a fun workout together, involving Zumba or floor routines. This is a family activity to keep every person in good spirits.

#3 Cook something new. Now is as good a time as any to perfect a complex recipe, or come up with something new in the kitchen. It could be something as simple as the current craze Dalgona Coffee, or a fusion dish marrying two cuisines. Or you could get creative and put a healthy spin on junk food – make chicken nuggets at home minus the preservatives and extra salt, or bake a sugar-free cake for your parents. Food is the one thing that can keep us going during this COVID-19 lockdown.

#4 Develop your business idea. Have you been putting off perfecting the plan for a business you wished to launch this year? You were probably short of time when you were working full time. But now that you are in a Coronavirus lockdown and have plenty of time on your hands, you can perfect the plan and decide on a launch later this year. With the phone and Internet at your disposal, you can even have online meetings with potential clients and vendors to refine your plan further. The COVID-19 lockdown can become the launchpad for your dream business.

Above all, stay home and stay safe – this should be your mantra as you look for creative ways to spend your indoor time during this COVID-19 outbreak.
