There are many routes to choose from Delhi to Manali. The distance is between 550 km to 650 km, and the time taken is 12-15 hours. Each road will take you to Manali but through different towns and scenery.

Ambala-Chandigarh Route (via NH44 and NH154)

This is the most popular route for the Delhi to Manali road trip. The distance is roughly 540 km which will take 12-13 hours to complete.

On this route, you will find many beautiful locations you can explore:

Purana Quilla, Panipat

Stop by this historic location to marvel at the ancient architecture and the panoramic view from Quila park. 

Kurukshetra

Known as the land of Bhagavad Gita, you can stop at Kurukshetra to visit the Brahmasarovar, Sheikh Chili Tomb, and Jyotisar before continuing your road trip.

Rock Garden, Chandigarh

This garden is creative as the art items here are all made from trash and recyclable material. It is a must-visit on your Delhi to Manali road trip.

Rewalsar Lake, Mandi

Nestled between the mountains, this lake is a sacred pilgrimage stop. The scenic view will refresh you from the long drive. 

Bijli Mahadev Temple, Kullu

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this is one of the most ancient temples in the country. Visit the temple to seek the lord’s blessing and continue ahead.

 

Banur-Palampur Route (via NH44 and NH205)

This is a longer route compared to the first option. The distance is 650 km which takes roughly 15-16 hours to cover.

Bhakra Nangal Dam

Known for its engineering and marvelous architectural work, the Bhakra Nangal Dam is a great spot to stop on your way to Manali.

Kangra Fort

Situated on the outskirts of Kanga valley, this fort is a sight to behold!

Norbulingka Institute and Monastery

If you want to experience Buddhist culture and learn more about it, this institute in Dharamshala is a must-visit.

Bir-Billing

The capital of paragliding in India, you can stop by and try paragliding here or enjoy the sights from this charming little town in Himachal Pradesh.

Parashar Lake

Located amid the Dhauladhar range, this lake is worth a stopover on your Delhi to Manali road trip.

Zirakpur-Shimla Route (via NH44 NH5)

The distance on this route is 600 km which can be covered in 15-16 hours. The route is the same till Ambala, and then you have to take NH5 to Zirakpur.
