Goa is known for its delicious curries and chicken preparations. One such popular dish is Chicken Cafreal. It is a spicy preparation that is often compared with Chicken Peri-Peri. But, this Goan delicacy has more complex flavours and is quite different in appearance and colour.
If you are looking for a simple and delicious chicken recipe for a special Sunday meal, you can try this chicken Cafreal recipe by Chef Dias, the Executive Chef at Club Mahindra Goa.
It is a perfect starter for lunch or dinner.
· Chicken breast
· Cooking oil
· Mint leaves
· Coriander leaves
· Ginger
. Garlic
· Cloves
· Peppercorn
· Cinnamon
· Cafreal masala
· Grind coriander leaves, mint leaves, green chillies with cinnamon, cloves, ginger, garlic and peppercorn
· Put gashes on the chicken breast, marinate it with the Cafreal masala and let it sit for about four hours.
· Grill the chicken until it is cooked inside and charred on the outside.
· Garnish the chicken with mint leaves and extra Cafreal masala and serve!
Originally made using chicken legs, Chicken Cafrael originated from Portuguese colonies in Africa. The dish became a part of the Goan cuisine as it was brought to the Indian shores by the Portuguese and African soldiers who served under the Portuguese. The original dish was shallow fried and usually served with potato and lime wedges.
