Acharya Jagdish Chandra Bose Indian Botanical Garden, Kolkata

Founded in 1787 by an officer of the East India Company, the Indian Botanical Garden is the oldest botanical garden in India. Spread across 110 hectares, it is also the largest botanical garden in India. It was established to help identify new plants with commercial value. The botanical garden has around 12,000 plants from different countries. A 200-year-old banyan tree is one of the major attractions of this garden. The tree has more than 1600 roots firmly rooted to the ground. It is truly a sight to behold! The botanical garden also has a large collection of orchids, palms, bamboos, and other plants. In the botanical garden, you can spot wildlife like jackals, Indian mongooses, and Indian foxes.

National Botanical Garden, Lucknow

Founded in 1789 by emperor Nawab Sadat Ali Khan, the National Botanical Garden in Lucknow is one of the best places to visit in India. It is one of the oldest botanical gardens in India. This garden is known for developing a technique called dry flower arrangement, which has earned acclaim across the world. The 25-hectare botanical garden has rose gardens, lush green lawns, lily pools, a cactus house, and a conservatory and they are all very well maintained. 

Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Bangalore

The Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bangalore is one of the most beautiful gardens in the entire country. The 50-hectare garden has over 1800 plantspecies. The garden houses rare species of Afghani, French, and Persian plants. The most attractive feature of this garden is the glass house where the annual flower show is held every year.

Government Botanical Garden, Ooty

Located in the picturesque Nilgiri Hills, this botanical garden is spread across 20 hectares. Since this garden is situated 2500 meters above sea level, the area enjoys a pleasant climate. The garden houses thousands of indigenous and exotic plants. One of the main attractions is a fossilized tree trunk in the middle of the botanical garden, which is almost 20 million years old!

The botanical garden also has some plant species from the pre-historic period like Ginkgo biloba and the Living fossil tree.

TNAU Botanical Garden, Coimbatore

This botanical garden is located on the campus of Tamil Nadu Agriculture University. With the backdrop of the hills, this is of the most picturesque botanical gardens in India. There is a wide variety of plants and trees in the gardens. You can spot a variety of Lillis, marigolds, chrysanthemums, roses, and marigolds in this garden.

Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden, Srinagar

Set in one of the most scenic places in India, the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Garden is approx. 30 hectares of pure bliss! The botanical garden contains almost 150,000 varieties of ornamental plants and a big collection of oak. The botanical garden also houses a few rare collections of Kashmiri plants unique to this area. It is one of the best sightseeing spots in Srinagar. 

Assam State Zoo Cum Botanical Garden, Guwahati

Spread across 175 hectares, this zoo cum botanical garden in Assam is one of its kind! The botanical garden here has over 280 species of plants and 45 indigenous species of plants. There are also many rare and endangered plants present in this botanical garden that tourists can learn more about. It is one of the finest botanical gardens in North East India.
