An all-electric air taxi service soon to be introduced in India, starting from Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore by 2026.

In a groundbreaking development poised to redefine urban mobility, air taxis are set to soar over the Delhi-Gurugram skyline, offering commuters a swift and futuristic mode of transportation. With congestion-choked roads and ever-increasing travel times plaguing the Delhi-NCR region, the introduction of air taxis promises to alleviate commuter woes while heralding a new era of efficient transit.

Going by the reports, InterGlobe Enterprises, the parent company of IndiGo, and US-based Archer Aviation are all set to introduce an all-electric air taxi service in India by 2026. This service will transport passengers from Connaught Place to Gurugram in just 7 mins.

Archer Aviation aims to deploy 200 of its Midnight planes for operations initially in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. The five-seater electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft will be capable of accommodating a pilot and four passengers.  The cost of the 7 minutes journey by an air taxi from Connaught Place to Gurugram will likely range from INR 2,000 to 3,000.

These aircraft function more like helicopters but with reduced noise levels and enhanced safety measures. Each equipped with six battery packs, will recharge fully in 30-40 minutes. As per Adam Goldstein, Founder and CEO of Archer Aviation, the certification process for their aircraft is underway and has reached an advanced stage.

Discussions on required infrastructure and operational aspects of the flight, including real estate for vertiports or launchpads and other vital facilities needed to start the flight operations with respective entities have begun.
