International Yoga Day is being celebrated with fervor and enthusiasm across the globe, highlighting yoga's role in promoting physical and mental well-being.Â
Held annually on June 21st, this day is dedicated to the ancient practice of yoga, which originated in India thousands of years ago. The theme for this year’s 10th International Yoga Day, "Yoga for Self and Society," emphasizes yoga’s significant role in fostering individual well-being and social harmony.Â
As events unfold worldwide, the British Deputy High Commissioner, Oliver Ballard, lauded yoga as "India's gift to the world" during a ceremony in London’s Hyde Park.

India being the birthplace of yoga, has witnessed a great wave of enthusiasm on this International Yoga Day. Thousands of participants, including dignitaries, citizens, and tourists, gathered to perform yoga asanas at iconic spots like the banks of the Dal Lake in Kashmir, Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, Gateway of India in Mumbai, etc. Individuals from different walks of life and varying cultural backgrounds came together to perform yoga in cities like Dehradun, Rishikesh, Chandigarh, Lucknow, including several others.
The event was broadcast live, inspiring millions to join in from their homes. In Rishikesh, known as the yoga capital of the world, special sessions were held on the banks of the Ganges River, drawing yogis from around the world.
Across the globe, various events marked the occasion. In New York, a significant gathering took place in Times Square, where participants practiced yoga amidst the bustling city. In Paris, a grand session was held near the Eiffel Tower, creating a serene contrast against the urban backdrop. Similarly, in London, the celebration took place in Hyde Park.
In Asia, countries like China, Japan, and Indonesia also saw widespread participation. In Beijing, yoga sessions were conducted in public parks, while in Tokyo, a large-scale event was organized in Yoyogi Park. In Indonesia, the celebrations were particularly vibrant, with sessions held on the beaches of Bali.
International organizations like the United Nations also played a significant role in promoting the day. The UN headquarters in New York hosted a special event that included yoga sessions and discussions on the benefits of yoga for mental and physical health.
As the day progresses, more events are expected to unfold, reflecting the global embrace of yoga. International Yoga Day 2024 is a testament to yoga's enduring legacy and its ability to promote harmony, peace, and health worldwide.
