Sanglaphu Lake set in Mangan district, opens to visitors for the first time.

In a momentous occasion that marks a significant milestone in Sikkim's tourism sector, Sanglaphu Lake, a pristine jewel nestled amidst the majestic Himalayan ranges, has opened to the public for the very first time in history.

Sanglaphu Cho (lake), often referred to as the Great Lake, has long captivated the imagination of travelers and carries immense religious significance. Locals often visit the  lake to offer prayers and seek blessings. Surrounded by lush greenery and snow-capped peaks, the lake set at of 5080m (16,670ft)is about 5 km from Yumesamdong, also known as Zero Point, near Lachung.

The opening ceremony of the lake was a sight in itself. Attended by esteemed members of the Lachung dzomsa and several others, a ceremonial prayer was conducted by monks from the Samten Choling Monastery in Lachung to commemorate the lake's inaugural opening.

Currently only vehicles equipped with four-wheel drives are recommended for accessing the lake, with plans for broader accessibility as snow gradually recedes. Local authorities have emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism practices to ensure the long-term preservation of Sanglaphu Lake's ecological integrity. Stringent measures have been put in place to regulate visitor footfall, minimize environmental impact, and raise awareness about conservation efforts among tourists.

As Sanglaphu Lake beckons travelers from far and wide, it stands as a testament to Sikkim's rich natural heritage and its steadfast dedication to sustainable development. With its doors now open to the world, Sanglaphu Lake promises to enchant visitors and leave an indelible mark on their hearts for years to come.
