The hill station of Saputara in Maharashtra houses a gem. Yes, we’re talking about the Hatgad Fort – an ancient citadel that was built by the great Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during his reign. Built in the 16th-century on the state border of Gujarat and Maharashtra, the Hatgad Fort Trek is a great way for your family to witness some splendid landscapes and stunning vistas of the Sahyadris. Let’s begin with the good news first. The plateau which houses the ruins of the Hatgad Fort is easily accessible by road. So, from the base, you’ll take about 30 minutes to reach the narrow, uneven flight of 200 stairs that lead up to the fort. Once on top, you’ll come across remnants like a water reservoir along with small cisterns, ramparts and a tower which was used to store grains.
