Activities at Club Mahindra Baiguney

stories

  • Conclay in Baiguney, Sikkim By Mridula Dwivedi

When I heard about a possible visit to Baiguney with Club Mahindra I was excited. I had been with them to Coorg before and it was a wonderful experience. We could share some of our travel experiences and I decided to talk about Everest Base Camp trek.

  • A verdant escape Sikkim By Rakhee

When I was invited to a conference in Sikkim I jumped at the chance. Whilst I was excited and interested in the topic to be discussed, travel, I just wanted to experience this place for myself. I had heard so many things about Sikkim, most people who had described it to me looked longingly as they recounted the lush greenery and mountain breeze. Given the Summer has set in in Mumbai and monsoon was threatening, Sikkim sounded just perfect.

Sight Seeing

1. Chakung

A 360° panorama makes Chakung one of the most breathtaking places to visit. Perched at an altitude of 6000 feet and a 45-minute trip from the resort, Durpineydara Viewpoint overlooks the Rangeet Valley on one side and Mt. Kanchendzonga on the other.

2. Phurtsachu

Rich in lore and mythology, 'PhurTsa Chu' sits on the bank of River Rangeet. You will meet pilgrims from all walks of life and can join them in taking a dip in the hot spring between January and March. The holy caves, where Guru Padhmasambhava is believed to have meditated and slayed a demon will definitely grab your attention.

3. Samdruptse

Samdrupste very simply means wish-fulfilling hill in the Bhutia language and lies near Namchi in South Sikkim. Its lure lies in what rests atop it, namely, a unique 135-foot high statue of Guru Padamasambhava.

4. Namchi

Namchi lives up to its meaning consistently. This ‘top of the sky’ has an unrivalled view the Khanchendzonga Range and the Rangit Valley. A 2-kilometre trip will take you to the old, yet attractive Ngadak monastery. But the rarity doesn’t stop with just the air. As you go higher, on a hill above the monastery is the Rock Garden, which blooms with the most uncommon of flowers and plants.

5. Temi Tea Garden

Lying like a shawl on a gentle hill slope, which originates from the Tendong Hill, Temi affords visitors a marvelous vision of the neighbouring villages. These gardens are home to one of the best tea qualities for the international market.

6. Darjeeling

Darjeeling has so much for everyone that if you missed even one thing, you will have missed a thing of beauty. But if you are a person with a plan, all the sights and sounds of Darjeeling are yours to have and to behold. The Lloyd Botanical Garden, the Rock Garden, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, the Darjeeling Himalayan Zoological Park are some of the amazing places you can plan and visit. Darjeeling is truly a treat for everyone.

7. Kalimpong

At 1250 m above sea level, one can’t help but have a view as magnificent Kalimpong offers. Mt. Khanchendzonga is just one of the many sights that Kalimpong affords visitors. Several monasteries and a Kali temple as well are worth a trip. Worthy stops include The Tibetan Monastery and curio center and Dr. Graham's home.

8. Pelling

Pelling is nothing short of breathtaking. Less than a kilometer from Pelling, the Pemayangste monastery is a scenic place with a vista of the Khangchendzonga range. If one takes a 40-minute walk on a hill opposite the monastery, one reaches the ancient and rustic Sanga-Choling Monastery. A totally worth it trip.

9. Khecheopalri

Hidden under a richly forested area, Khecheopalri Lake lies 25 kilometres away from Pelling. It is a sylvan and sacred place of the Buddhist and the Hindus. A peaceful place to visit.
