A trip that features freezing temperatures, majestic mountain sights and serpentine queues – but at the end, one that is every bit worth the wait! One of the major attractions when you check into a Club Mahindra resort in Sikkim, is to visit Nathula Pass, located at an altitude of 4309 metres. Freezing, chilling and utterly mesmerising, to Gaze into Tibet through Nathula Pass is definitely one of the many things to do in Sikkim.

Nathu means "listening ears" and La means "pass" in Tibetan. This mountain pass connects Sikkim with China's Tibet Autonomous Region. It is one of the highest motorable roads and is covered with rich alpine flora and fauna. Seeing the fenced Indo-China border, patriotic feelings will definitely arise in you. When you see the soldiers of both countries guarding the border area under extreme weather conditions, you’ll hardly feel like complaining about the chill. Moreover, the snow-clad mountains of Nathula Pass present such a stunning view, that you forget everything else around. Such is the magical feeling that overcomes you when you Gaze into Tibet through Nathula Pass.

A permit is required to visit this place, which can be obtained from the Sikkim Tourist Department at Gangtok. Private vehicles and taxis are prohibited to enter Nathula pass, so prepare to walk. You have to take a stairway from the parking area to really experience the thrill of this place.

History was created here, for sure. In 1904, Major Francis Young, serving as the British Commissioner to Tibet, led a successful mission through Nathula to capture Lhasa. The Nathula Pass was reopened for border trade after a gap of 44 years in 2006. The road to this pass is breath-taking and dotted with army settlements. Want to Gaze into Tibet through Nathula Pass, and be a part of living history? Well, all you need to do is plan your trip to Sikkim now.
