The 10 day festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. The festival is held to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, who is worshipped as the remover of all obstacles in life. The auspicious festival is celebrated with great grandeur especially in the state of Maharashtra. People from across the country are known to gather and witness the splendid Ganesh Festival celebrations in top cities. Yet no other city beats the celebration spirit of Mumbai.
The city itself hosts more than 6000 Ganesh Pandals within its cover. If you happen to visit Mumbai during Ganesha Chaturthi, you will find each and every street decorated beautifully with lights, devotional songs playing in the background, and the soothing aroma of incense floating in the air. Anybody can walk into the pandals and pay their respects to the lord. In return, you will be offered sweets as ‘Prasad’. Lalbaugcha Raja in Mumbai is the most famous Ganapati installations in India. The idol gets more than a million visits over the short span of 10 days.
However, if you want to seek the lord’s blessings away from the crowd of Mumbai, Ganpatipule is the perfect place to head to. Ganpatipule is a spectacular destination located along the Konkan coast of Maharashtra. Aside from being a popular beach paradise, Ganpatipule is also a pilgrimage destination for Ganapati devotees. It is home to a 400-year old Swayambhoo Ganesh temple which is located at the shores of a pristine sandy beach. The temple is referred to as “Swayambhoo” because the temple idol was formed on its own. This Swayambhoo Ganesh temple is quite popular among all Ganesha devotees across the country. Although Ganpatipule is a small village, the place becomes the nerve centre of grand celebrations during the 10 Days of Ganesh Chaturthi. All of the villagers and the tourist pilgrims come together and make the celebrations truly spectacular.
Visiting Ganpatipule during Ganesh Chaturthi is a wise decision this year because you get to spend the long weekend amidst astonishing natural beauty. The white sandy beaches are lined with lush trees and hills, which make the landscape breathtakingly beautiful. Besides, there are many amazing resorts in the vicinity that can make your stay at Ganpatipule more exciting.
