Welcome to Wayanad, a district located in the north-east region of Kerala, at the southernmost tip of the Deccan Plateau. Wayanad has become a very popular tourist destination of India with its countryside allure and natural beauty. In addition to the scenic drives and the green hills, Wayanad’s lakes, waterfalls and mountain streams make for perfect tourist attractions. Kerala offers some beautiful options for family vacations and Wayanad is one such. You will never be short of fun things to do in Wayanad and a family holiday here will be one you will remember for a long time.

The monsoon months are the best time if you want to make the most of the places to visit in Wayanad. The greenery all around, the waterfalls and lakes provide for some picture-perfect holiday moments. Having said that, the summer (March-May) are better suited for outdoor activities and wildlife safaris.

The flowing water, swamped hills and scenic environment make it a perfect spot for aquatic birds and an appealing place for sightseers. The dam is best visited in the daytime. This man-made marvel with its lush green surroundings is a fun place to unwind and relax.Among some beautiful places to visit in Wayanad is the Karapuzha Dam, one of the largest earth dams in India. Located in one of the most scenic areas of the region, the dam offers a stunning view of the Karapuzha River. One can even hear the sound of water gushing amidst the green landscape of Kalpetta.

While at the Karapuzha Dam, you can even visit attractions like the aquarium or enjoy boating and canoeing. There are beautiful nature walks to be taken and if you enjoy photography, this place should be an absolute dream. During the monsoon, the water at Karapuzha Dam reaches to its brim making the view amazing. The dam remains open throughout the year.

Whether it is boating, trekking, camping, mountain biking, speed boating, zip lines etc., adventure seekers at Karapuzha Dam have plenty to choose from: Wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers too will enjoy here with the forest tracks, tree houses, and wildlife safaris. This tourist place in Wayanad also has plenty of attractions for history and architecture lovers.

If holidaying in Wayanad is on your mind, you are probably thinking of the ideal resort to stay in too with your family. A recommended retreat is the Vythiri Village Resort, a Club Mahindra affiliate in Wayanad. The comfortable and spacious rooms with the best of amenities, lip-smacking local food in the in-house restaurants and the several activities the resort offers to its guests make this the best Wayanad resort by far.

Do note that the Wayanad district has no railway lines. Buses are available from Kozhikode and Mysore. Access from Kerala is a little difficult because of the mountain passes or 'ghat roads'. It is a much easier drive from Mysore or Madikeri though.
