The festive season is about to begin in India. Raksha Bandhan is right around the corner. Not only siblings but entire families get together to celebrate this popular festival in India. One of the most important things that bond people during these festivities is food. Special days require a special menu, and there are many items to choose from. Most people make an entire spread with desserts for the family to sit together and enjoy the Rakhi special delicacies

If you’re planning to host the Rakhi festivities for your family this year, here are some Rakhi special dishes you can include on the menu:

  • Aloo Katori Chaat
  • Dahi Bhalla
  • Paneer Tikka
  • Pulao
  • Chhole Bhature
  • Malpua Rabri
  • Kaju Rolls
  • Gulab Jamun

Aloo Katori Chaat

You can start off the celebrations with something light but flavourful. Any Indian menu is incomplete without at least one item of chaat. Aloo Katori Chaat is easy to make and is a burst of flavours. The katoris or baskets are filled with a spicy mixture of chickpeas and potatoes. It is topped with tamarind and mint chutney, chopped onions, coriander, and sev. It is perfect to serve as an appetizer before you bring in the big guns.

Dahi Bhalla

Another chaat item you can add to your menu is Dahi Bhalle. The vadas are made from a mixture of moong and urad dal. They are soaked in sweetened dahi and topped with tamarind chutney, mint chutney, and pomegranate.

Paneer Tikka

You can never really go wrong with paneer! Paneer Tikka is a great appetizer to start your meal with. Put marinated paneer onto skewers and add some diced vegetables of your choice. You can grill the skewers and you’re good to go! If you’re a non-vegetarian, you can replace Paneer with chicken and enjoy Chicken Tikka instead.

Pulao

Pulao is a must-have on the menu. Fragrant rice cooked with vegetables and served raita–how can you go wrong with this one? It is a classic dish that pairs well with anything with it. It is easy and quick to make too.

Chhole Bhature

Chhole Bhature is a great festive dish that is extremely flavourful and a favourite dish for many. Spicy chhole are served with piping hot and crispy bhature. The combination is truly magical!

Malpua Rabri

Indian festivities are incomplete with sweets. Malpua Rabri is a traditional sweet dish that is similar to a pancake. Soft and fluffy malpuas dipped in sugar syrup are then topped with rabri and dry fruits. Sounds delicious, doesn’t it? It’s an indulgence you can’t deny yourself during the festive season.

Kaju Rolls

Mithai is definitely one of the Rakhi special delicacies. During the Rakhi aarti, the sister feeds her brother something sweet and Kaju Rolls are a great mithai for this act. You can make these at home instead of buying them. These nutty sweets are melt-in-the-mouth soft and super delicious. You won’t be able to stop eating at one!

Gulab Jamun

This classic sweet dish is the perfect way to end any meal and celebration with. Milk solids are fried in ghee and dipped in sugar syrup. They are easy to make at home too. This is one of the best Rakhi special dishes you must include on the menu.

Raksha Bandhan is a day to feast on special foods with your siblings and loved ones. Make some of these Raksha Bandhan special foods and have a great feast with the family.
