From the all-time classic Chocolate Mug Cake, to desi kheer, here are 4 fantastic dessert recipes that will make her eyes sparkle and her heart sing. 

1. Chocolate Mug Cake

This is a delectable dessert that is super easy to make at home. Is there anything better than gooey, molten chocolate cake? We think not. This Women’s Day, try this simple rendition of the classic chocolate cake, this time in a cutesy mug.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ⅛ teaspoon baking soda
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a large microwave-safe mug. Stir in the milk, canola oil, water, and vanilla extract. Cook this mixture in the microwave for 1 minute, 45 seconds, until the cake is done in the centre. Ta da! Fool-proof and sinful. This dessert recipe can be mastered by everyone, even kids.

2. Mango Mousse

If you want to make Women’s Day absolutely mango-ficient, check out these amazing dessert recipes and smart cooking hacks. This one, in particular, will remind you of happiness and summer. Introducing a tender, plump, mango mousse that is like magic to the taste buds. Not only is this simple to prepare, but also extremely satisfying to dig into.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 large, well-ripened mangoes
  • 400 ml heavy whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup condensed milk

In a large bowl, add in the cold cream and whip it until medium peaks form. Then, pour in the condensed milk and mix. Next, add the mango puree in portions and fold it into the whipped cream until well combined. Pour the mixture into cups and refrigerate for 2 hours. Once done, add whipped cream on top. Who’s ready to play chef?

3. Kheer

Surprise your mum, sister, wife or daughter with a mouth-watering, home cooked, sweet treat this Women’s DayKheer (the good old Indian sweet rice pudding) is ideal for a day of celebration and self-indulgence. Add this to your repertoire of tasty dessert recipes, and you’ll never go wrong.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 5 cups milk (full fat)
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ cup basmati rice (or any medium grain white rice)
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup sliced almonds
  • 2 tablespoon chopped pistachios
  • 1 pinch of saffron
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom powder

Boil water in a pressure cooker, pouring in the milk when it begins to simmer. Throw in the rice, and stir well. Close the lid, and let it cook for 20 minutes on high pressure. Once the pot beeps, open the lid and use the back of a ladle to mash the rice for a creamy consistency. Then, add sugar, almonds, pistachios, cardamom powder and saffron, and mix well. Boil the mixture for another 2-3 minutes until the kheer thickens. Stir continuously!

4. Mom's Signature Laddoo

Now this one is more than a little special, as it is prepared with leftover rotis – something you’ll find in every Indian kitchen. A hearty laddoo that is slightly sweet, slightly textured, and very scrumptious, it’s perfect for Women’s Day. Presenting one of our all-time favourite dessert recipes.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 7 rotis (leftover)
  • 3 tablespoon ghee / clarified butter
  • 2 tablespoons raisins
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cashews
  • 2 tablespoons chopped almonds
  • ¼ cup jaggery
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • ¼ cup khoa
  • ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder

Roast the rotis on a low flame until they turn crisp. Transfer this into a mixer, and blend to a fine powder. In a pan, heat the ghee, and throw in the raisins, cashews and almonds. Cook until it turns golden brown. Combine this with the roti mix. In another pan, dissolve the jaggery in water, and stir on a medium flame. Mix all the preparations, along with the khoa and cardamom powder.  At last, mould a round-shaped ball. Refrigerate for best results.
