What to expect

Scenic drives, local experiences, nature and regional cuisine

New Delhi to Mussoorie

New Delhi to Mussoorie

Distance: 260 km | Drive time: Approximately 5 hours

The road from New Delhi to Mussoorie gradually trades the bustle of the capital for the quieter landscapes of Uttarakhand. The first stretch takes you through the plains towards Dehradun, before the road begins to climb and the scenery changes. Once the bends begin, pine and cedar-covered hills replace city traffic, the air gets cooler, and Mussoorie eventually appears above the valley.

At Club Mahindra Mussoorie, you can keep the relaxed mood going with a Cookery Class with the chef or savour timeless local flavours through a Garhwali Thali. When you're ready to explore, head to Lal Tibba, Mussoorie's highest point, stroll through the bustling Mall Road, or take in the cascading waters of Sahastradhara.

Mumbai to Dapoli

Mumbai to Dapoli

Distance: Approximately 260 km | Drive time: About 6 hours 30 minutes

Leave Mumbai behind and head towards the Konkan, where multi-laned highways gradually give way to smaller roads, greenery and glimpses of the Arabian Sea. The further you travel, the more the landscape begins to feel like a proper coastal escape.

At Club Mahindra Dapoli, stargazing, sunset views and nature walks offer easy ways to slow down after the long drive. Further out, you can set off on a Dolphin Safari at Murud Beach, explore the Konkan coastline or take a boat from Harnai towards the centuries-old Suvarnadurg Fort. As you explore the coast, don't miss the chance to savour the Konkan's distinct culinary traditions, from fresh seafood and fish thalis to seasonal jackfruit delicacies, Ukdiche Modak and cooling Solkadhi.

Kolkata to Gangtok

Kolkata to Gangtok

Distance: Approximately 700 km | Drive time: About 17 hours 30 minutes

This is the outlier of the four journeys, and that's precisely what makes it interesting. The journey takes you northwards from the plains of West Bengal towards the Eastern Himalayas, where the scenery becomes increasingly mountainous, with winding roads, forested slopes and dramatic changes in elevation.

If you have a long weekend or a few extra days to spare, turn the journey into part of the adventure rather than treating it simply as a way to get there.

At Club Mahindra Royal Demazong Gangtok, the long drive gives way to Sikkimese calm. A Sikkimese Organic Thali, Tongba Tasting, and Bonfire Evenings bring the region's flavours and traditions into the stay. Close to the retreat, Rumtek Monastery is worth a visit for its prayer wheels, spectacular architecture and glimpse into the region's Buddhist traditions. Meanwhile, at the Himalayan Zoological Park, forest trails lead through the hills, giving you the chance to spot some of the region's wildlife.

Bengaluru to Madikeri

Bengaluru to Madikeri

Distance: Approximately 260 km | Drive time: Around 5 hours

The route through Mysuru and onwards to Madikeri gradually trades the cityscapes for Western Ghats scenery.

At Club Mahindra Madikeri, coffee plantations, birdlife and forested surroundings make nature part of the stay. Walk towards the sacred Do Mukhi Rudraksha Tree, look out for the resort's diverse birdlife or Cook with the Chef to discover the flavours of Kodagu.

Beyond the resort, Abbey Falls tumbles through coffee and spice plantations, while Talakaveri, the revered source of the River Cauvery, offers a quieter experience amid the Brahmagiri Hills. Madikeri Fort adds a glimpse into Coorg's layered history. And naturally, no trip here is complete without coffee and local cuisine. A Coorgi platter, the famous local filter coffee or pandi curry can bring a fitting end to a day on the road.

The Road Is Part of the Holiday

A good drivecation isn't simply about how quickly you can get somewhere. It's about watching the landscape change, stopping when something catches your eye and arriving with the feeling that you've already begun the holiday.

Whether it's a five-hour drive from Delhi to the hills of Mussoorie, six and a half hours from Mumbai to Konkan, five hours from Bengaluru to Coorg, or a much longer journey from Kolkata into the Himalayas, each route offers a different way to make the road part of the getaway. Some fit neatly into a weekend; others are worth stretching into a few extra days. What matters is that the holiday begins the moment you hit the road.
