The southern part of India is blessed with varied topography including the mountains, sea, and forests, making many of its destinations like Munnar, Coorg, Ooty, and Thekkady some of the best places to visit in Karnataka. If you are a coffee lover, then Coorg is one of the best destinations in Karnataka. There are many other places to visit across South India.
Here is a 10-day South India tour itinerary to get you started.
Day one
Begin your trip in Coorg, which is considered as the coffee hub of India, as there are many places to visit in Kodagu. This hill station is about 244 kilometers from Bengaluru, which is accessible from major Indian cities by road, rail, and air. Begin your holiday with cups of piping hot coffee as well as a coffee plantation tour.
Day two
On your second day in Coorg, take some time to sample traditional Kodava cuisine and make time to visit Dubare Elephant Camp that is sure to excite the kids! Make sure to say a prayer at Bylakuppe Monastery before heading back to your Madikeri resort in Coorg.
Day three
Before heading to Ooty, which is about 236 kilometers away, make some time for last minute shopping at Madikeri along with some photography at Raja’s Seat. The journey to Ooty takes about six hours and once you are there, you will be spoiled with endless cups of tea. Spend your evening relaxing here as you take in the tea-scapes.
Day four
Spend the morning boating at the pristine Ooty Lake and do take your kids on a ride in the UNESCO-listed NilgiriMountain Railway here. Learn about Ooty’s history at Stone House and spend some time at the Botanical Gardens.
Day five
Reserve this day for the Doddabetta Peak and Pykara Waterfall.
Day six
Spend some time at Ooty’s Tea Museum before heading out on the 346-kilometer journey to Thekkady. As the journey is long, it would be wise to spend the rest of the day at the Ooty resort.
Day seven
Thekkady is a wildlife haven. Spend time at the Periyar National Park for a date with the tiger and do some bamboo rafting as well. It is better to have only this activity, as it will take up the kids’ stamina.
Day eight
Pay a visit to the spice plantations of this region before making your way to Munnar, which is 92 kilometers away. Once you reach, be regaled by the tea plantations, and sip the brew.
Day nine
Head to the Eravikulam National Park, which will delight the kids, as they try to spot the Nilgiri Tahr. Post this, visit Devikulamand Mattupetty Dam.
Day ten
On your last day of the trip, spend time shopping at Munnar. You may pick up tea, local handicrafts, trinkets, and souvenirs before heading back home.
