For first time visitors, there are a few places to see in Coorg that should not be missed. Explore the majestic Madikeri Fort while telling your kids stories about it. Take in the beauty and force of the magical Abbey Falls. Pay homage to the place where the royal family finally rests at Raja’s Tomb. Enjoy some peace at the beautiful Omkareshwara Temple. In the end, feel on top of the world as you gaze at the spectacular view from Raja’s Seat. When you are done with these, there are still some more secret spots in Coorg.
If you have visited Coorg before or would prefer a unique and interesting experience, here are some of the lesser known places to visit:
If you are an adventure lover, then Kutta is definitely the place for you. Feel like a bird as you take off in a two-seater open plane. Tumble down the gushing waters of the Upper Barapole while river rafting with kids. Besides, Kutta also serves as the base camp for the Brahmagiri trek, one that is great fun to do with kids.
Just like Kutta, even Kakkabe is stuffed with adventures galore. Bond with your kids as you all have a thrilling experience here. If your family is into trekking, the Tadiandamol Trek, that takes you to the highest peak in Coorg, is surely worth a climb. You could also go quad biking or mountain biking. If you prefer water activities, then Kakkabe offers you the chance to indulge in kayaking and canoeing.
At the foot of the Tadiandamol peak is the Nalakunad Palace. A noteworthy structure, it was built in 1794 by a Kodagu king. The palace is known for its ancient murals.
The Nagarhole National Park, also known as the Rajiv Gandhi National Park, is called one of Karnataka’s best wildlife getaways. It is situated between the Kabini River and the Bandipur National Park. It certainly a great place to take the kids on a safari, one that is offered by Club Mahindra’s Coorg resorts. The park is well-known for its huge population of animals like elephant, bison, tiger, dhole, leopard, hyena, deer, and more.
The Namdroling Monastery is a large Tibetian Buddhist complex in Bylakuppe. Around 5,000 Buddhist monks and nuns live here. The Monastery is also home to the gorgeous Golden Temple and the beautiful Zangdogpalri Temple. Both shouldn’t be missed while on a visit here.
