Goa is the go-to destination when it comes to planning a beach getaway with your loved ones. From its glorious beaches, a network of glistening paddy fields to the historically evocative buildings, Goa excels as a tourist destination on many fronts. Joined with its long palm-fringed coastline and diverse cultural heritage, this culmination represents an altogether unique frame of India. For a fun and entertaining family trip, this itinerary will best cover quintessential Goa, with colonial history, sandy beaches and mouth-watering cuisine.
Day 1
Your tour itinerary will start with the exploration of sightseeing attractions in bustling North Goa. A great way to start your trip is to explore the historical landmark of the Bom Jesus Church in Old Goa. Home to the preserved remains of Saint Francis Xavier, the Basilica is an exemplary marvel representing the old Baroque-style architecture. A short distance ahead you will find the ruins of St. Augustine Tower, which is also remnant of the architectural past.
Later in the evening, head to the beaches in the north where you can unwind amidst the slow waves and the coastal frenzy. While there are several beaches to explore in the northern parts, Calangute, Baga and Candolim are quite popular among visitors. If you are looking for a sumptuous meal, one of best the places to visit in Goa for good seafood is Britto’s at Baga Beach; it is a must try for its great food and amazing vibe.
Day 2
On the second day, gear up for a packed itinerary with plenty of things to do in Goa. Go about exploring some of the well-known coastal attractions. Start your tour with a leisurely stroll around Fort Aguada. Overlooking the serene waters of the ocean, this well-preserved seventeenth-century Portuguese fort offers picturesque scenery. After this, you can head to the Vagator Beach that is adorned with red cliffs towering above the shore. The famous Chapora Fort is easily accessible from this beach, which offers some of the best views of the sun setting across the horizon. For some fun-filled activities, many of these beaches offer water sports such as windsurfing, jet skiing, scuba diving, parasailing, snorkelling etc. After visiting the many places to visit in Goa, you can head back to your Goa resort and unwind.
Day 3
Day 4On day three, head to the heart of Goa, and its capital, Panjim City. Here, one can cruise down the coast of Miramar-Caranzalem and Campal, a heritage area. Check out the beautiful tree-lined avenues past Kala Academy, the cultural centre of the city, and go past the children’s park and into the market area. When in Panjim city, a visit to Church Square is a must. Dominated by the towering Immaculate Conception Church, the square takes you through a nostalgic romp into a bygone Portuguese era. Some of the popular sites here include Fontainhas–the old Portuguese quarters, and the Archbishop’s Palace, Freedom Park and many more heritage sites. Later in the evening, if you are up for a luxurious experience and a full-fledged entertaining evening, hop onto a cruise boat that swiftly sails across the magnificent Mandovi. It is definitely one of the things to do in Goa if you have the time.
The beach is the undisputed star attraction in Goa. Having said that, if you can drag yourself away from the sun and sand for one day, many more happy hours can be spent discovering other natural riches in the state. The best places to unravel these riches are the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary and Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary. The deciduous forests of Bondla Sanctuary interspersed with a favourable climate, make them a habitat for a wide range of fauna and flora. It is a great place to relax and explore the natural environs. The Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is situated on Chorao Island. A short drive down the Ribander causeway and a ferry boat rode across the jetty should get you there. On reaching the place, experience the calmness of the surroundings. A must do activity there is to cruise leisurely along the placid waters of the canals while catching a glimpse of the colourful array of birds.
Day 5
For an altogether exciting experience, a take a long road trip to the famous four-tiered Dudhsagar Waterfalls. Sitting right at the border of Karnataka and Goa, Dudhsagar Falls is nothing less than a scene out of a photograph. Located between the Mollem National Park and the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary, the falls are a great place to unwind and spend some good old quality time with your family.
