The coastal town of Udupi is blessed with some of the most mesmerising beaches in Karnataka. We list here six of the most famous Udupi beaches that should be on the list of every beach lover. Udupi is one of the most famous tourist places in Karnataka due to its long coastline dotted with countless breathtakingly beautiful beaches. While many of these beaches are still unexplored, you can begin your Udupi diaries with these six beaches famous for their pristine beauty.Â

Located just 6 kms from Udupi, Malpe is a virgin beach perfect to begin your Udupi beach exploration. The endless golden sand, clear blue sky, tall wiggling palm trees, and the small Udyavara river graciously flowing around-Â it is the best beach in Udupi for many travellers.
You can also check out the relatively unexplored Padukere beach right next to Malpe beach. This hidden gem has backwaters stretching to about 3 Km and can be reached by ferry or a newly constructed bridge.

With the Souparnika river on one side and the Arabian Sea on the other, the Maravanthe beach is one of the most famous beaches in Udupi due to its unique geographical position under the beautiful backdrop of Kodachadri hills.Â
You can enjoy fun activities like learn scuba diving and snorkelling or sit on the white sand to watch the stunning sunset on the horizon. The vast population of tortoises here attracts adults and children alike.

The Kaup beach is one of the most easily recognisable beaches in Udupi due to the 100 ft tall lighthouse built by the British in 1901. The still-operational lighthouse is open to the public for a small fee and presents a breathtaking panoramic view of the shore.Â

A one-stop destination to have fun or relax- Padubidri beach is one of those beautiful beaches near Udupi that attracts people of all ages. The long and sandy beach is lined with rows of coconut trees where you can sit and relax as the cool sea breeze gently kisses your face.Â
The river Kamini meets the Arabian sea at the Padubidri endpoint, a great spot to spend the evening with your loved ones while watching the sunset.
Â

The Kodi Bengre beach is sometimes referred to as Delta Beach as the Suvarna river flows into the Arabian sea, forming a delta. The picturesque beach is surrounded by water from three sides. Take a boat ride to explore the mangroves. The beach is famous for local seafood delicacies and palm wine called toddy.

Located just 12 Km away from Udupi, Mattu beach has surprisingly remained untouched compared to other nearby beaches. The 30 Km long beach is one of the least commercialised beaches near Udupi without significant human interference.Â
Cycling on the beachside road while indulging in mouthwatering seafood delicacies is the best way to explore this hidden wonder. Don’t forget to grab a bite of Mattu Gulla, the locally grown eggplant with a unique taste.Â
If you are lucky, you might witness the glow of the sea sparkles, the bioluminescent creatures, at night.
