Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, boasts beautiful places aplenty. The city offers you varied things to do on family vacations that cover architecture, history, gorgeous landscape, ancient temples, and verdant gardens. At the center of it all is the pristine Dal Lake, dotted with colorful shikaras that float on its waters in an idyllic manner.
Here’s a list of some of the must-see places to visit with family in Srinagar:
Located on the Gopadari Hill at an elevation of 1,100 feet above sea level, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It’s a good idea to visit this place with family as it’s an important pit stop during the Amarnath Yatra.
Also called the “Jewel of Srinagar”, the Dal Lake is surrounded by verdant mountains and is spread across 26 square kilometers. It’s one of the most photographed amongst Kashmir’s tourist places. Colorful shikaras adorn the water of this lake. Don’t forget to shop at its floating flower market!
This is a delightful place to visit with your children. Rows upon rows of tulips blossom in every color here. Teach your kids about tulip cultivation, click lots of pictures, and take in the majestic backdrop of the Zabarwan Hills when you’re here.
Known as the “meadow of gold”, Sonmarg isn’t too far from Srinagar and is a fun place to visit with kids because it boasts amazing places to see like Zoji La Pass, Vishansar Lake, and Krishansar Lake. You can also indulge in white water rafting at Shutkari Bridge.
Located in Pahalgam, it’s named after the famous Bollywood movie that was filmed here. Its picture-perfect landscape is filled with deodar and pine trees with the Lidder River flowing through it. Your kids will enjoy horse riding, walks along the river, and the amusement park here.
Located next to Dal Lake, this is a 12-terraced garden filled with beautiful flowers and trees. It’s the second largest Mughal garden in Kashmir. Lofty Chinar trees surround its gorgeous central Mughal water channel that’s replete with water fountains. It was built in 1633 by Asif Khan and modeled on Persian gardens. It’s perfect for a picnic or a walk with your family.
