6 Places to Visit in Diu

Diu Fort

A remnant of Portuguese history and architecture, the imposing Diu Fort is surrounded by the sea on all sides and is shaped like a ship. Located just ten minutes away from Club Mahindra Azzaro, you could head out to the fort after devouring a hearty breakfast at the resort, which makes it one of the best places to visit in Diu, if you’re up for a walk. Giving you a spectacular view of the Arabian Sea as the waves lash against its sides, the Fort is located at the eastern tip of the Diu Island. If you would like to go back in time, you and your family can also see the jetty that once welcomed trading boats to and from Cambay, Broach and Surat in Gujarat.

Diu Fort St Paul’s Church

Ram Vijay

If you are looking to cool yourselves after an enriching session of history at the Diu Fort, head to this old fashioned but homely ice cream parlour. Ram Vijay has been serving freshly churned handmade ice creams and milkshakes since 1933 and is almost a landmark, apart from being one of the most loved places to visit in Diu.

St Paul’s Church

One of the three churches built by the Portuguese in Diu, this church is recognised as the epitome of Baroque architecture. It is close to the Club Mahindra Resort at a mere distance of three kilometres. As you make your way inside the church, you will notice that its structure is quite similar to Bom Jesus Basilica in Goa. The church comprises intricate and detailed wooden carvings which reflect pages of the Holy Bible. A beautiful sight at night, head out to visit this church after an evening snack or cup of tea in one of Azzaro’s multi cuisine restaurants. The church is open on all days from 8am to 6 pm except Sundays.

Ghoghla Beach

One of the most charming places to visit in Diu for a family picnic, this scenic beach is located just five kilometres from Club Mahindra Azzaro. The adventure sports enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice with options such as parasailing, jet boats, banana boats and more. Moreover, this beach is spread over a distance of five kilometres, which makes it perfect for a romantic walk. However, if your picnic looks like it’s turning into an after party, you could always take it to the poolside at Club Mahindra Azzaro!

Ghoghla Beach Gangeshwar Temple

 Gangeshwar Temple

Located five kilometres away from Club Mahindra Azzaro, this temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is famous for its five Shiva Lingas - rocks that were installed in the middle of the sea by the Pandavas during their hideout. During high tide, these five Lingas are washed by the sea’s waves. The Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple is painted in bright shades of blue, orange and red and devotees claim to feel a strong presence of Lord Shiva. Another one of those perfect places to visit in Diu if you love mysteries.

Naida Caves

Located just five minutes away from the Club Mahindra resort. Naida Caves will teach your children the art of appreciating nature.  The orange brown walls and maze-like cave tunnels exude an air of mystery, which will intrigue your children and have them bombard you with questions. You could visit this place for some solitude or perhaps play a game of hide and seek with your family. With magnificent natural rock formations and the early morning rays of the sun hitting the orange rocks to create an interesting play of light and shadow, visit the caves right before breakfast to witness them in all their glory.

With so many places to visit in Diu, little wonder that this sleepy fishing town is waking up to travellers from all over the country. If you are yearning for a quick weekend getaway with your family, visit the Club Mahindra website for more information on Diu.
