Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) stands as the Best Airport in Arrivals Globally for the third consecutive year.
The recognition was awarded by the Airports Council International (ACI) as part of its annual Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey, a globally respected benchmark for passenger satisfaction. KIA, known for its seamless passenger experience, efficiency, and state-of-the-art facilities, has consistently raised the bar in airport operations.
The accolade highlights the airport’s commitment to providing a hassle-free and pleasant arrival experience for travelers from across the globe. Factors such as quick baggage delivery, immigration efficiency, cleanliness, and customer service played a crucial role in securing this honor.
Opened in May 2008 as a solution to the congestion at HAL Airport, Kempegowda International Airport is named after Bengaluru’s founder, Kempe Gowda I. Karnataka's first fully solar-powered airport ranks India’s third busiest, followed by Delhi and Mumbai. Internationally, it is the 25th busiest airport in Asia and 56th in the world. A pioneer in several aspects, it became India’s first airport to have an all-women firefighting squad and introduced a 50 km road made from plastic waste.
The airport’s Terminal 2 showcases 60 artworks by 43 Indian artists and includes a first-of-its-kind sensory room designed for neurodivergent travelers and those with sensory sensitivities, promoting inclusive air travel. In 2019, it became South India's only airport with parallel runways. Additionally, it is India's first airport to receive Level 1 accreditation under the Airports Council International (ACI) Accessibility Enhancement Programme, ensuring better accessibility for specially-abled individuals and those with hidden disabilities. The airport also features the Tiger Wings, a vast vertical garden with 630 endemic plant species, making it a unique biodiversity hotspot
The consistent global recognition underscores Bengaluru’s emergence as a major international aviation hub. With further expansion plans in place, including a new runway and enhanced connectivity, Kempegowda International Airport is set to continue its streak as one of the best in the world.
