Devmali, a quaint village in Beawar district, Rajasthan, has been recently recognized as India’s Best Tourist Village, capturing the attention of travelers and cultural enthusiasts alike.

Tucked away in the Aravalli Range, this picturesque hamlet offers a unique experience of India’s rural charm, with a rich cultural heritage and a lifestyle largely untouched by modernity. As per recent reports, the central government will present this award at a ceremony held in Delhi on November 27th.

What sets Devmali apart from other tourist destinations is its centuries-old tradition of housing. Going by the reports, around 3000 bighas of the village land is dedicated to Lord Devanarayan. The residents of Devmali are true devotees of Lord Devanarayan, and they believe that the village land belongs to the revered deity.

There are no permanent houses in the village, the locals here dwell in mud houses with thatched roofs. Also, there is a complete ban on burning neem wood and kerosene. No one in this village consumes alcohol nor does anyone eat non-vegetarian food.

Houses in Devmali village do not have locks on them and over the years not a single case of theft or robbery has been reported.  A couple of local legends attached to this village make it even more alluring. Judged based on popularity and significance in preserving local culture, the entries for Best Tourism Village were scrutinized. Topping the list was Devmali village.

Tourists visiting Devmali are often struck by the village’s peaceful environment, scenic landscapes, and ancient temples. One of the main attractions is the Devmali Temple, an important spiritual site for the local community, and a must-visit.

In recognizing Devmali as India’s Best Tourist Village, the Ministry of Tourism has highlighted the village’s sustainable tourism practices, emphasizing conservation and respect for local traditions. The award is part of a broader initiative to promote rural tourism in India, encouraging travelers to explore destinations that offer more than the typical tourist experience.
