Indian Railways and IRCTC have launched the latest Bharat Gaurav train tour, called ‘Garvi Gujarat’. This tour will take tourists on an 8-day journey, to showcase the true potential of the state’s tourism and highlight the cultural heritage of the ‘Jewel of India’ i.e., Gujarat. The Bharat Gaurav Garvi Gujarat train is part of the Government’s ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ initiative.

Amenities aboard the train

The luxury train has the capacity to accommodate 150 travellers on board. It is replete with modern facilities to give you a comfortable and pleasurable stay. 

State-of-the-art furniture, two fine dining restaurants, one well-equipped pantry car, a modern kitchen, shower cubicles in coaches, foot massager, and sensor-based washroom functions – the Bharat Gaurav train spells modernity, splendour, and comfort. Along with this, it has a mini library for you to read books during long hours of travel. For enhanced safety, the train features CCTV cameras, security guards, and electric lockers to keep your valuables.  

The train is fully air-conditioned and has two types of accommodation options – 1st AC and 2nd AC.

The latest Garvi Gujarat train tour commences its journey from Safdarjung Railway Station in Delhi. Passengers can also board and deboard the train from other stations like Gurugram, Rewari, Ringas, Phulera and Ajmer railway stations. 

Starting at Kevadiya, where the magnificent Statue of Unity is located, the Delhi to Gujarat train covers about 3500 kms. 

Some of the most popular tourist attractions covered in this tour include:

  • Champaner archaeological park (a UNESCO world heritage site) – This is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, architecture, and culture. With its rich heritage and stunning natural beauty, this park offers a truly unforgettable travel experience. It is home to the remains of the ancient city of Champaner, which was founded in the 8th century and thrived until the 16th century.
  • Adalaj Step Well - Visitors to Adalaj Step Well can explore the various levels of the structure and admire the intricate carvings and designs. They can also learn about the history and cultural significance of the well.
  • Akshardham Temple at Ahmedabad – This is not just a religious destination, but also a centre of cultural and social activities. It is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Indian culture, art, and spirituality and offers a unique and enriching experience for visitors of all ages.
  • Sabarmati Ashram - Visitors can explore the various buildings and exhibits within the ashram complex, which showcase Mahatma Gandhi's life and work, including his philosophy of non-violent resistance, or Satyagraha. The ashram has a museum that houses a collection of books, photographs, and other personal belongings.
  • Modhera Sun Temple - The temple was built in the 11th century and features intricate carvings and sculptures that depict various gods, goddesses, and mythical creatures.
  • Rani ki Vav – Rani ki Vav (the Queen’s stepwell), was built in the 11th century by Queen Udayamati in memory of her husband. The stepwell is a masterpiece of Indian architecture and engineering, with seven levels of stairs leading down to a small pool. It is adorned with sculptures of Hindu deities, apsaras, and other mythological figures.

The Bharat Gaurav scheme was initiated by the Railway Ministry in 2021 to promote Indian tourism among Indian and foreign tourists. The idea is to offer theme-based circuits with trains that will reach various destinations to showcase the country’s diversity and rich heritage. The Indian Railway is set to launch 10 more circuits, soon. The Gujarat tour was designed and conceptualized on the life of the Indian freedom fighter Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.
