In a groundbreaking initiative to make the Mahakumbh 2025 an environmentally sustainable event, authorities are set to introduce app-based e-rickshaws, e-autos, and women-driven 'Pink Taxis' to ensure eco-friendly and smooth travel.

The move is part of the larger "Green Mahakumbh" campaign, which focuses on reducing the carbon footprint of the massive religious gathering that draws millions of devotees from across the globe. The app-based e-rickshaw and e-auto services will provide seamless connectivity across the sprawling Mahakumbh venue, ensuring visitors can move efficiently while minimizing environmental impact.

Developed in collaboration with leading green mobility startups, the initiative will also feature a user-friendly mobile application for booking rides, navigating routes, and accessing real-time vehicle availability.

This year, the Mahakumbh is expected to draw millions of visitors, gathering for the iconic religious event held once every 12 years. To enhance the travel experience and promote sustainability, an app-based e-vehicle system will be launched on December 15. Designed similarly to ride-hailing platforms like Ola and Uber, this service will provide transportation at fixed fares from key locations such as railway stations, bus stands, airports, and hotels.

A standout feature of this initiative is the launch of the “Pink Taxi” service, exclusively operated by women drivers to ensure safety and comfort for female passengers. Spearheaded by Uttar Pradesh startup Comfy E Mobility, the initial fleet will include around 300 e-rickshaws serving areas like Prayagraj and the Kumbh Mela. These eco-friendly vehicles will be equipped with GPS tracking, fully enclosed designs for added safety, and transparent fare systems.

To guarantee efficient service, all drivers will undergo customer service training, with a special focus on communication skills. Drivers will also learn to use Google Voice Assistance, enabling them to overcome language barriers and provide seamless experiences for visitors from across India and abroad.

The Mahakumbh 2025 is projected to host over 45 crore people. To manage this influx, the Uttar Pradesh government will deploy over 7,000 buses and 3,000 trains alongside the e-vehicle system. These efforts are a vital part of the Green Mahakumbh initiative, which seeks to reduce air pollution and promote a cleaner, more sustainable environment.

This innovative transit system underscores the government’s commitment to blending modern technology with traditional values, ensuring a comfortable and eco-conscious experience for pilgrims.

Authorities have expressed confidence that this initiative will set a benchmark for organizing large-scale events with minimal environmental impact. With app-based e-rickshaws and e-autos at its core, the Green Mahakumbh 2025 aims to blend technological innovation with cultural heritage, offering an environmentally responsible model for future global events.
