The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and its neighboring districts, forecasting heavy rain for today.
IMD’s recently issued alert indicates that residents should be aware of potential adverse weather conditions and take necessary precautions. The anticipated heavy rainfall is due to an active monsoon system over the region, which is expected to bring widespread showers throughout the day.
As per data collected from the city's municipal corporation, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city recorded 37.74 mm of rainfall, eastern Mumbai 17.13 mm, and western Mumbai 12.30 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours ending at 8 am. There have been no disruptions in terms of traffic on roads and suburban train services so far, though there might have been some delays. No major waterlogging has been reported until now.
Recent reports indicate that the southwest monsoon, this year has arrived two days ahead of its typical date of onset which is June 11. Amidst the prevailing scenario, efforts are being made to ensure that drainage systems are clear and functioning to minimize flooding in low-lying areas. The BMC has also issued public advisories, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel during the heavy rainfall periods.
Residents are advised to keep track of weather updates and follow instructions from authorities. By taking proper precautions, the impact of the heavy rains can be managed effectively, ensuring the safety and well-being of the population in Mumbai and its neighboring districts.
