India’s Longest Ropeway to Cut Dehradun–Mussoorie Travel Time to 20 Minutes.

Ropeway to Connect Dehradun and Mussoorie

A breathtaking new travel experience is on the horizon for hill station lovers. By September 2026, India’s longest passenger ropeway—a 5.2-kilometre monocable detachable gondola system will connect Dehradun to Mussoorie, promising to transform the way tourists access the Queen of the Hills.

The scenic ropeway is poised to become India’s longest passenger cableway. The ₹300 crore project was officially unveiled at INTERALPIN 2023 in Innsbruck, Austria.

The ropeway will ascend 1,000 meters and reduce the current 2-hour, 33-kilometer road journey to a scenic 20-minute cable car ride.

The system will operate year-round and run entirely on electricity, aligning with green transport goals. It is designed to carry up to 1,300 passengers per hour in each direction. The gondolas will feature 10-seater diamond cabins with automatic doors, advanced ventilation, and weather-resistant design, ensuring comfort and safety in all conditions.

Built to meet stringent European safety standards (CEN), the ropeway will be subject to regular inspections and maintenance. While some critical components will be imported, much of the construction and manufacturing will be done in India, giving a boost to local industry and employment.

More than just a transport solution, the ropeway promises an unforgettable aerial experience. Passengers will glide above lush valleys and forested slopes, offering panoramic views and photo opportunities throughout the journey.

As Mussoorie prepares to welcome this state-of-the-art ropeway, travelers can look forward to a faster, greener, and more immersive route to one of India’s most beloved hill stations.
