Kaziranga National Park in Assam has set a new tourism milestone, drawing over 4.43 lakh visitors during the 2024–25 season. This remarkable achievement makes it the third most visited national park in India, trailing only behind Rajasthan’s Ranthambore and Kerala’s Periyar National Park.
Spanning over 1,300 square kilometers, Kaziranga—renowned as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a prominent tiger reserve—witnessed a 35% rise in tourist inflow between October 2024 and May 2025. Among the visitors were 18,463 foreign tourists, a figure that underscores the park’s growing global appeal. With the season officially concluded, the park has now closed its gates to visitors for the monsoon break.
Officials attribute the surge in footfall to a strategic mix of improved infrastructure, innovative tourism offerings, and increased promotional efforts. Enhancements such as better road connectivity, and upgraded visitor facilities have significantly improved accessibility. Additionally, government initiatives, including the successful hosting of the International Tourism Mart in 2024, have elevated the park’s profile on the global tourism map.
Kaziranga’s efforts to diversify its attractions have also paid off. From cycling trails through blooming silk-cotton groves in Laokhowa to boat safaris on the Brahmaputra and curated birding expeditions, the park has broadened its appeal. Wildlife conservation successes and effective marketing campaigns have further bolstered interest.
While the iconic one-horned rhinoceros remains the star attraction, the park is actively promoting its "Big Five" wildlife lineup—comprising rhinos, Royal Bengal tigers, Asian elephants, wild water buffalo, and eastern swamp deer. River tourism and birdwatching have also emerged as key focus areas to enhance visitor experiences.
Kaziranga’s record-breaking season reflects a well-rounded approach to eco-tourism, conservation, and community-driven development.
