Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Assam, is set to reopen for visitors on October 1, 2024, marking the beginning of the 2024-25 tourist season.
Famous for its rich biodiversity and home to the largest population of the one-horned rhinoceros, the park remains a major attraction for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers from around the world.
The park, which was closed during the monsoon season due to heavy rainfall, is now preparing to welcome visitors once again. Authorities have been working on repairing roads and infrastructure, clearing debris, and ensuring safety measures are in place for both tourists and wildlife.
Kaziranga National Park is known for its successful conservation efforts, particularly in protecting the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. The park is also home to other iconic species such as Bengal tigers, elephants, wild water buffalo, swamp deer, and a wide variety of bird species. It covers an area of approximately 430 square kilometers and is divided into four ranges – Burapahar, Bagori, Agaratoli, and Kohora.
The reopening of the park on 1 October 2024 is expected to boost tourism in Assam, which plays a significant role in the state's economy. Authorities have implemented strict guidelines to regulate the flow of tourists and ensure the protection of the park’s delicate ecosystem. Visitors will be able to embark on jeep safaris, elephant rides, and guided tours to experience the park's diverse flora and fauna.
With Kaziranga’s reopening, the park promises to once again offer visitors a unique experience in the lap of nature, while continuing to champion its conservation efforts.
