Kerala gearing up to host the International Paragliding Festival in Vagamon

The five-day International Paragliding Festival to take place in Vagamon, a breathtaking hill station in Kerala known for its lush green meadows and scenic landscapes. 

Establishing Kerala as a key hub for aero-sports tourism in India, the International Paragliding Festival will be held in Vagamon. Scheduled to begin on March 19, the five-day event will last till March 23, attracting paragliding enthusiasts, nature lovers, and adventure seekers.   

Set at an altitude of 3,000 feet in Kolahamedu, Vagamon is a popular destination for paragliding due to its ideal wind conditions, high-altitude take-off points, and stunning aerial views of rolling hills and misty valleys.

Participation - The upcoming event will have 86 participants from 11 countries. 

Categories - International Top Landing Accuracy Cup, Paragliding Accuracy (Overall), Paragliding Accuracy (Women), Paragliding Accuracy (Team), Paragliding Accuracy (Indian Overall), Paragliding Accuracy (Indian Women) and Paragliding Accuracy (Junior). 

Prize – Winners of this event will be awarded INR 1.5 Lakh for the first place, INR 1 Lakh for the second place, and INR 50,000 for the third place in each category. 

The event aims to promote adventure tourism in Kerala, offering visitors a chance to witness and participate in this exhilarating sport. Organizers are also planning interactive workshops, expert talks, and safety training programs, ensuring a well-rounded experience for attendees.

Beyond the adrenaline rush, the festival is expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy, benefiting hospitality, transport, and tourism-related businesses in Vagamon. With its unspoiled natural beauty and pleasant weather, Vagamon is set to shine on the global adventure tourism map.

The state is also focusing on expanding activities like white-water kayaking, mountain cycling, and surfing, setting an example with this adventure sports event conducted in harmony with nature.
