To tackle ongoing challenges, the Uttarakhand government has made it mandatory for all travelers planning a trip to Mussoorie to complete an online registration procedure.

Online Registration Mandatory for Mussoorie Visitors from August 1

Starting August 1, 2025, all travelers heading to Mussoorie must register online before arrival, as per a new mandate by the Uttarakhand Tourism Department. The initiative aims to curb overcrowding, ease traffic congestion, and improve overall tourist services in the popular hill station.

Mussoorie, popularly known as the “Queen of the Hills,” has experienced a sharp increase in tourist visits in recent years, leading to traffic jams and pressure on local infrastructure.

To handle this, authorities have launched a dedicated online portal https://registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in/touristregistrationmussoorie —  where visitors are required to complete a digital registration before traveling. On-the-spot registration will not be permitted.

How It Works

Tourists need to enter their personal details, arrival and departure dates, number of companions, and vehicle registration number (if applicable). Indian nationals must verify their identity via OTP sent by SMS, while international travelers will receive their verification via email.

Once registered, users will receive a unique QR code, which must be shown at all entry checkpoints, key tourist spots such as Mall Road and Gun Hill, etc. Local authorities are tasked with verifying the codes to ensure compliance.

Why the Move?

Officials say the new system allows real-time monitoring of visitor inflow, enabling better deployment of services like sanitation, traffic control, and emergency response. The measure is also aimed at preventing crowding at hotspots like Kempty Falls and ensuring sustainable tourism. To avoid any inconvenience, travelers are urged to register early and carry their QR code while heading to Mussoorie.
