Rajasthan Comes Alive as Pushkar Camel Fair 2025 Draws Global Crowds

The sands of Rajasthan are witnessing one of India’s most spectacular annual events — the Pushkar Camel Fair 2025, which has begun and will last until November 5 in the holy town of Pushkar. Also known as the Pushkar Cattle Fair or Pushkar Mela, this iconic celebration of faith, trade, and culture draws thousands of visitors, traders, and tourists from around the world.

Hosted by Rajasthan Tourism, the seven-day fair coincides with Kartik Purnima, the full moon of the Hindu lunar month of Kartik. The fair, one of the world’s largest camel and livestock gatherings, is expected to feature around 30,000 animals, including camels, horses, goats, and sheep.

While the first few days focus on camel trading and competitions, the rest of the fair will be filled with religious ceremonies, folk performances, and rural sports, offering a vibrant snapshot of Rajasthan’s traditional life.

Visitors can also enjoy an array of folk dances, music performances, and unique contests, including the famed camel beauty pageant, moustache competition, and turban-tying challenge.

The fairground buzzes with stalls selling Rajasthani handicrafts, silver jewellery, textiles, and tie-and-dye fabrics, while local food vendors serve authentic vegetarian delicacies, as alcohol and non-vegetarian food remain prohibited.

Beyond the fair, Pushkar promises a range of experiences — from hot air balloon rides and sunset safaris to camel treks and quad biking across the dunes. As dusk falls over the desert, Pushkar comes alive — a mesmerizing blend of spirituality, tradition, and celebration that captures the timeless essence of Rajasthan.
